The "fiberglass" is only really the cloth that comes in many many weaves ect. Once you expose the cloth by drilling holes to refit your new plate, is the reason. The cause is vibration. I would also suggest using nylon nuts and bolts and some rubber grommets to affix your plate.

Copnsider too that a license plate holder might act a a deterrent to the nest dude that needs a bike plate. Was your old plate maybe a vanity plate? I think the plate was the real targen and losing your other stuff was just there and went bye-bye.

Be careful sanding that fix. Shards of glass cloth are much like asbestos and even getting them on you is like a case of jock itch..

Paint it? I would, especially if any bright metal is showing. My guess is that the pan is steel and it will rust. The "fiberglass" is not so important but it will look better. Your bike is clean and neat and well taken care of. It shows.

I had a cage nicked once in front of my house. Called the cops (Seattle PD). The officer came out and took down the necessary stuff.. I thought, that that was about it. Four days later a SPD officer came to my house and told me they had found my car just a few blocks away. Some tools were gone and so was the registration. Go figure..

My insurer at the time (GMAC) sends this mouth breather oot to have me sign off on any damages. I refuse and tell this dude that I wlll need to drive the car for ten days to access any damages On the third day the tranny blows.. Moral of that story is that I am real glad I made a police report because the fucking snake of the local agent was all over it until we has a little Come to meet Jesus session on the front porch of his office real early in the morning.

The whole trunk is plastic. I wish it was metal. They would have had a much harder time getting what they wanted if was. I forgot about the new wholes exposing the fibers. I'll look for grommets or maybe add resin to the exposed areas. Thanks.

Since the tray is plastic, I'd guess ABS. Lots of ways to fix that.. Maybe go back to square one and use metal (aluminum) and a couple of pop rivets at either end to hold it in place.

It's possible that plastic may have been what saved you from getting more damage to the bike. Metal would have been harder to pry loose but if the asshole who nicked your plate and kit was serious he could have done some serious damage.

Next I can show you how to build a device using a mousetrap, a battery, some wire and some household chemicals to use as an anti theft deterrent..;) A 44 mag works too.
