Help with noise from front of engine

Hi all,

I've noticed a noise from waht appears to be the front of the engine, it's like a drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr if you roll your tongue, it's itermittant and normally when cold or really hot.

Any ideas? garage I got it from said it's had a cam chain service only 1000 miles ago by them.

 

Hmm - I think people on the forum (many miles away) will need more information from you before attempting to offer any answer. Its always a trade off between trying to keep a post short and conveying all the pertinent information so the following questions came to mind..


OK You have posted in the 6th gen forum and looking back at your previous posts I guess we are talking about a 2002 Vtec - but its worth confirming that and updating your forum profile ("My Profile" at the very top of the page) to include the year/specs of your VFR so they appear with all your posts.

With noise related problems by far the best way to get help is to make a short YouTube video so we can also hear what is happening. Ok its an intermittent fault so that may take some time to catch the noise - but without it we can't really help much.

It may also help understand what may be happening if you can give us a rough run-down on pertinent things like the bikes recent history - so things like how many miles has it done, when was it last serviced. Did the noise appear suddenly or simply become progressively more noticeable over many months. Did anything else happen to the bike about the time you first noticed this noise - such as dropping the bike or installing modifications - like a Power Commander or new exhaust?

(It might just be the flappr valve noise on the airbox - but if people have been messing with the cam chain/tensioner - they may have done it wrong?)

 

Hi, Sorry, it's a 2002 vfr800 vtec 31000 miles if I remember correctly, the garage I got it from said they serviced it and serviced the camchainm, I've only just noticed it but I wear earplugs, the noise isn't present when idling, only when moving, it has leo's on, I will try to get a vid of it tomorrow, it has partial service history most recent being April 2014 just before I took ownership, I've never dropped/crahed it, I did the box standar mods everyone does but put the flapper back on.
