I always buy the same thing as SOW uses. He knows what the best tires are and the best oil and frame sliders and anti-flea treatments and the shemales with the biggest equipment and the First Burger Kings in Maine that will soon be serving the "Proud Whopper". Later this week according to SOW and the San Francisco plank holder, the Maine BK will be serving the all new Proud Whopper Hotdog with any choice of buns.

Yes, one is double the price. is it worth it? Yes. There's a huge difference between a ContiMotion and a Pilot Road 4. I have tried both and I feel that difference. Both I've had from brand new.
Cliches come into play when you deal with luxury products and name brands, not the case here. I had that mentality before, getting a best deal - I learned quick that when it comes to performance and handling, it's money well invested to buy best quality instead.

Once again, my advice to fellow riders is to spend their cash on safety first and that includes tires. Motorcycle riding is not some sort of bargain driven hobby.

If I was doing a track day any time soon, I would have never bothered looking at the Conti, but for my current needs, I have zero complaints so far. Yes, only been on them a couple of months. We all know riding is Dangerous and requires Skill and sometimes, "Ish Happens". I made a choice and take responsibility for my actions and for the safety of myself and my passenger which is typically my daughter.

Needless to say, you cannot buy $$$ safety. Of course you can prepare but, when it's your time, it's your time; in whichever/whatever way it happens.

Everybody's financial situation is different. I'm sure everyone here would love to have the latest & greatest but that isn't always feasible. Why spend the money if you don't have to? VFR's are many different things many different people. Choose things like tires accordingly. It's money wasted when you buy the best quality & don't have to. To somebody on a budget thats money that can be better spent / saved elsewhere.

Safety starts with the person throwing a leg over the bike.

We are not talking about an exorbitant amount of money here. We are also not talking about buying something new on a whim.

I understand your guys' points and even agree to a certain extent. However, never again will I purchase a tire that is an entry, bargain model from any manufacturer. When you find yourself in an extreme situation, you don't think about saving that 100 bucks once a year.

Cut down on pizza or skip on the Rolex but buy good tires! ;)

I did/have spent plenty on my gear that I wear. From my head to my feet, I have invested in Quality products but by no means the most expensive but I value that just as much as keeping my VFR well maintained

All those factors rolled together in a sphincter moment, the most important factor is you/ the Rider. I crashed my 1st bike/car turning left in front of me on a brand new Ninja 250 (in 1996) and learned from that experience/practical knowledge. I then moved up to a FZR600 a month after that accident, and rest is history...

Everybody's different, my experience has been the exact opposite as yours. That is to say the difference in cost no matter how small isn't enough to sway my opinion based on my experience. I have no doubt PR3's or PR4's are better tire. However I have complete confidence to get where I'm going in any condition/ situation rolling on Contis. Speaking of extreme situations have you tried riding in Boston lately?

You are right I do need to cut down on the pizza or spend more time at gym. The only way I'm getting a Rolex is armed robbery. ;)

The Conti's are probably fine for commuting and long life, the PR3's and 4 are probably sticker in the twisties and stop a tad better but probably less life. As mentioned the VFR can be many types of ride. Hell I actually have a set of GPA 211's (the back is a 190/55!) that I used for a rainy track day on my CBR. Talk about a sticky tire when warmed up for the VFR!

Ill never ride on shinko's again. Had the apexe's on my last bike, a hyosung 250. Living nightmare when you pushed them over in a hard turn. Front likes to fight a lean and wobbles when forced further. And god forbid you attempt trail braking into a turn. Your rear end will try and beat you to the apex. Wore the rear down in 4k mi. And went to bridgestone s20's. Felt like i was riding a whole new bikr. Everything i couldbt do before felt like it wanted to do more.

After i got my VFR i rode on bridgestone bt23's, the factory tire. Great tire, but if you canyon care on weekends your fronts gonna cup pretty bad. But a great tire... now im on bridges bt16's, and i cannot be happier. They heat quick, wear even, makes you feel like they can handle everything. Front will never let you down, the rear likes to shake itself out if its cold and wet.

I have BT-016s on now and they are absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to try the S20s.
