Nice , today was the day to figure things out on this new VFR which they badge Interceptor.. what ever. What a sewing machine. Very well put together, Honda does a good job when they want too, in this they really didn't miss much, maybe a wee bit over the top here and there, but this White ROCKS.

Once on the move in the parking lot at parking lot speed you can feel the weight. but once moving over 20 mph it disappears. Talk about jet smooth, where's the rumble? not here. (note to self) IT DOESN"T HAVE GEAR WHINE! poop! But talk about great throttle response very predictable. oh and that Vtec thing, it's gone, just jet smooth here I come acceleration, it gets it's shit together right now if needed. Brakes are as good as they get. This one has ABS, my thought on that is I don't want to even get close to a situation where I need to relay on it to work, so I'll chalk it up to gadgetry not needed. Since I pulled out of the parking lot with only .1 of a mile showing on a cool looking layout of a dash, I like the tach, shows Honda went the extra in the small stuff. In that figure I best not over do it, that and the tires were not scrubbed in yet.. I fixed that.
Accelerating on the on ramp was a hoot, talk about seamless get up and go, all though it would be nice to hear the engine rumble and all, but no Vtec snap here, very nice. The ride on the freeway was as smooth as it can get on a bike. Honda also retain the nifty air slot in the screen that takes negative airflow pressure away, making the helmet turbulence a non issue I could ride this bike all day with out any problems. W ith my 6'1'175lb frame, it was like it was made for me, bars, foot pegs, seat height, be hard to get it better. The Mirrors where vib free the whole time and give a decent what's behind you. insert funny thing here, just so happen when I did check the view in the mirrors, who do I see? the local law. I did a quick glance at the numbers being displayed , Opps 56 in a 45. all is good. :)
    It worked out
From there I had a chance to take it through town and wouldn't ya know it today it was 94 degrees, so the fans where on a lot of the time. I never really felt anything in the way of heat being an issue it was just plain hot everywhere. I Did get a couple looks from folks on the side walk and one yelled out nice bike. So that was cool.
Back road abilities were not to bad, considering the tires where getting scrubbed in, but the bike still felt planted. My 4th gen with suspension upgrades had a quicker response, but being I didn't have time to play with suspense settings, and for a first time out, I'd say it did fairly well. pick a line and it followed right along, mid corner adjustments and bumps never upset the chassis nor the line but when a correction was needed a bit more effort was needed, but nothing that made me concerned. Throttle response was perfect for me and the torque curve must be pretty wide, typical V4 along with good FI, as you can keep it up an extra gear or not, just apply throttle when ready and away ya go. This VFR had Bridgestone sporttmax tires, those tires being oem I bet there's room for some improvement, but again just out of the crate it handled fairly well considering. The thing that bugged me, maybe surprising, was how smooth and quiet this VFR is, no fuss just riding on the wind, was pretty nice. All in all I'd still be hard pressed to drop $14K, the 014 CBR1000RR is also $14K, but man the smell of a new bike is very intoxicating. Time will tell how this VFR will play out, My ??? is a well taken care of 5th gen is just about the same bike. Definitely something to think about.

:tranquillity:But isn't a used bike costing half the dough better that you fix up yourself.

Beautiful bike and thanks for the write-up. That rear wheel looks amazing.

Wow! For a moment there J, I thought you bit the bullet. Guess not......yet. Looks good on you though. Take the plunge, Dare ya. You and I ( a pair of old whities) could go light up the back roads of Olympia all the while keeping a sharp eye out for Bambie sympathizers.

I agree with you. But too bad they decided to cover up that beautiful rear wheel and the single side swing arm with that damned pipe. The pipe itself looks fine but it covers other fine aspects of the bike.

I' m willing to bet the aftermarket gods are all over this one. Staintune do I hear ya tinkering? I looked it over pretty well and there's room for a high and tight version of the 4-5th gen style can up there. the header part is a work of art all in Stainless, other than a cat, it looks pretty decent as in it looks like it belongs. I agree the wheel needs to be shown, but I'm not worried that won't be taken care of. The rest of the bike is like Acura vs. Honda. Honda detailing on this vfr looks to be brought up a notch when compared to the other models , But Damn that price.............Honda what we're you thinking that and what demographic do you think will be looking at shelling out that kind of doe. The ones that are in the loop know that the 5th gen is it's biggest rival. at a third of the cost. But new vs.14 year old machine. ????????? I still can't help wonder how much if any safe-Ts bike played a part in the new version. if you where to put this vfr next to his you would have quiet a time comparing, even at that Safe-ts wins. just because of the suspension. I give this VFR a B+, it's not a home run but makes it in my book a stand up triple.

One more nit picky thing, It's a VFR more than an Interceptor, even though I understand the relationship, that little silver chrome lettering has gota go.

Nice! White is the best color choice for the new model IMO. Fit & finish looks excellent.

I really like the bike. It's on my short list if I ever do make the plunge into a brand new bike. I want to take it and wrap it in red white and blue livery and see how she looks. Maybe powdercoat the wheels white, change the pipe to a high and tight even even GP exit, ditch the cat and see how she does.

Yeah, they do a RWB version, I'd be hard pressed to not add a third bike to the stable...

A great looking ride. Standard model is listing at $12,499. I'm happy they kept it in the line up. I wouldn't kick it out of bed for eating cookies.

LOL thor, it's more a cosmetic thing now, but back when there were VFRs known for being VFRs this model reflects this more than say the 6th, just saying. ;) Honda pushed the interceptor badge when they brought out the 6th gen. but this VFR / Interceptor is nothing like the 6th gen, even though it has Vtec it's a whole other animal.

Not exactly a "whole other animal"....same frame and engine as the 6th gen...new, but similar swingarm...new, but similar suspension (still no inverted forks...wtf Handa?). That being said, I still want one!!

Well DriverDave. yes and no.. By the numbers it's like you said, but there's something else going on. Maybe it's the tires? Maybe how the engine works it's magic, just know it's a step in the right direction be it small or not. Did I mention the self cancelling turn signals? very clever, I went back to cancel them and they were all ready off. Now if it only weighed a tank full of fuel less and had an extra 20HP add the suspension as an option off say the 600RR and they would have hit a home run. But it's not bad. Just saying more than likely I'll get one next year. Surly they'll be some up grades for it by then and the bugs that come with a new model figured out.
