I would like to rotate my brake lever further forward but the black plastic block with 2 wires coming out of it located on the bottom area of the master cylinder prevent this. What is it and can I relocate it?

That's the brake light switch, so unless you only use the rear brake to provide those behind you an indicator that you're stopping, I would advise not removing it.

What OOTV said. Could also be an issue if your state requires an annual safety inspection.

Do you mean you want to rotate the brake lever further around the handlebar? I'm a bit confused about rotating forward.

I like to ride with 2 fingers on the brake lever. On my Superhawk I can rotate the lever downward to the point that it's comfortable ( old wrist injury). On the VTR that little plastic bit prevents this. I guessed it was a brake switch and I can re-wire. I didn't know if it has some ABS function.

No mention in the Honda service manual of the front brake switch being used as an input to the ABS system. Not even listed in the ABS system diagram. No mention in diagnostic or troubleshooting procedures either.

Will enlarging the notch in the right handlebar for the switch terminals give you the clearance you need? If your brave & careful you could remove a little material with a Dremel tool. Obviously weakening the handlebar is a risk.

The true culprit is the stock or even aftermarket clip-on (I.e. Heli-bar) as the part that rises up is what gets in the way. If you went to something like the LSL super bike bars it wouldn't be an issue. I was thinking about going this route for my '01 but it's not too much of an issue at the moment.

I'll look at all the suggestions. I don't need too much rotation. Bike came with helibars. Switching back to stock. Thanks.
