I was looking at a way to lose a few more pounds and this looks like a really great way to do it. A 520 chain is a few pounds lighter and so are these super light sprockets. This is a spot that would actually be like adding HP too and the bike would spin up much faster. I want to lower the gearing a bit-just two teeth on the big sprocket would help with low speed start offs. I think the VFR is geared a little too high for the riding I do. But what set do I use? I saw one set that used special metal lighter than standard steel and super strong chain rated for a 1200cc bike-this would be as strong as most 530 chains. Plus it would dress up the bike a bit. Any Idea's?:smokin::fish2::joker::banana::evil::mech:

I got about 15k miles out of a Vortex 520 set with aluminum rear and DID gold chain. Only problem was that aluminum rear still looked new, right up until the day that half the teeth broke off during a ride. I was lucky to make it back home. I still run a 520, but I stick with steel now.

    What that guy said.
if you're really aching to spend way to much damn money, look into supersprox.com

You're overthinking this. if you are planning on stripping every single errant pound away from your VFR, like the horn, all the extra wiring, like say, the hi beams on the headlights, and all that jazz, I'd think about a 520 set.

it IS NOT going to make a gigantic difference. more teeth on the rear will. going down 1 tooth up front will ABSOLUTELY wake it up. ask me how I know. However, right before I sold my GSX650F I had heard the big hullaballoo about how much lighter and nicer and freer 520 was and how I'd see 2-5% improvement in power blah blah. it felt absolutely, no different at all. on a big bike like ours, the only thing you're going to notice is it wears out so much faster. if you strip the bike down to 460 like CandyRed, MAYBE, kinda doubtful. but maybe.

I'm up one on the front and down two in the rear and the bike has no problem pulling away from a stop so I'm having trouble understanding your reasoning. That said, It's none of my business why you are doing these things. It only has to make sense to you but make sure that you weight the pros and cons of your mods carefully because gearing changes don't really gain anything, they only steal from one end and add to the other. So if you want the engine screaming when you are cruising along the highway at 70, go for it. You also need to get a speedo healer to fix the error you will induce into your speedo and odometer.

And it makes total sense for what you do with your bike. I've watched the videos of you launching that machine and it really come off the line as the numbers clearly demonstrate.

Haha thanks man! When its strapped down and lowered and stretched out an inch with an extra couple links in the chain, it puts the power down pretty good at the track, but holy shit unstrapped at factory ride height and a shorter chain, that front tire feels like its filled with helium lol

I sometimes wonder just why you even bought a VFR sonofwolf. With all the shit you are doing, or at least saying you are doing, just to get a very little performance increase is surely a waste of money. Some little adjustments to perk the bike up a bit is fine. But the VFR is a SPORT TOUR! for christ sake. It is not a penis burning crotch rocket. I think you should sell yours and go out and get yourself some high performance litre bike, put what ever gas and oil you wish in it, and learn to ride it.

I all most think your right, but the vfr is one of the best all around bikes there is-it can do anything-including full sport bike, add bags then its a sport touring bike. I like to tinker, I have changed the vfr a lot with simple bolt on mods, it works very well now and is totally different after less than a year. I did the same thing with the r6 which I liked, but it was warn out. The vfr has just enough power for what I am doing and I love the sound now that the pipercross and the slip-on has opened up the engine just enough to really hear it-v4-sounds amazing. I don't have room for another bike so I was looking for just one great bike, it has grown on me. I now realize how good the VFR is- I put about 1900 miles on it. So doing small changes is a lot of fun-right now it really needs nothing but to ride it. But don't forget I love to tinker!:mechanic::yo::tinfoil3:

You are right, I will just ride the dam thing-its all fixed up except I need to tighten the chain 1/4 inch-it has plenty of chain lube. Most off the time I only go 30+ miles, I am a back road rider, so I like to ride on the edges of the M5 tires-but I never really push it to the last inch-close though- I never to upgrade the suspension some.
