    HI,

I have nearly got rid of braking problems and here´s another one. Yesterday, just before I set out on a test ride, I checked the level of oil in my VFR and was at first concerned about what I saw. The oil level gauge was full of liquid. It has already happened to me that after putting the bike on the centerstand the gauge was flooded with oil and it looked like there´s excessive oil in the engine. This looked similar and that´s why I started the engine and set out on journey. Everything worked without any problem, no signs of troubles, but I couldn´t help thinking about the oil level. As I came home and checked the gauge a few moments after I had shut the engine off, the gauge was full. Well I didn´t like that. The oil looked quite runny but no wonder, the engine was hot. I had it cool down and the gauge was not as full as it seemed at first sight but the level was about 1/2 cm above the upper line. I checked the coolant level and there was no leakage. The only other possibility which occured to me and my father was the fuel leakage. Honestly, I´m just a hobby serviceman who learns a lot by practice but how is it possible for fuel to end up suddenly in an oil bath? What could go wrong? Injection? You tell me :).

Before I left my garage I drained some oil (Motul 10W40) from the engine. There were no sings of water/cooland in the oil but it smelled a bit of fuel. Consistency was runny but otherwise everything OK. If the level of oil rises and it smells of fuel the conclusion for me is there is something wrong with the fuel system/injection. I must admit the sound of fuel pump was different from what I was used to but after a few attempts it went back to normal. It seems that the bike after all the years begins craving new parts. Could anyone of you give me any clue which way to go?

    Best,

it's not uncommon for the fuel pressure regulator to go bad and dump fuel into the intake which runs by the rings into the crqnkcase. DO NOT run it anymore until you rectify the problem or you run the risk of oil starvation damage.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply. I have no intention to ride it till the problem is solved. I have already asked the dealer for a new fuel pressure regulator. Do you have any other idea what else could be the problem about? The oil which is now wasted had just a few more than 1 000 km and I would like to avoid another dose of new oil to be wasted.

    Best regards,

It's only $58 new from Ron Ayres so your dealer must have added a zero to the price by mistake.
