I am embarrassed to say that I dumped my VFR. Was experimenting with body position in a parking lot and, like a dope, rode myself right into a dirt patch. I was going slow, but the bike still attained just a bit of rash (thankfully, none to the tank, which would have been heart breaking!).

So, i have some rash near the right front turn signal, a little near the clutch cover bulge on the lower RH fairing, and then the clutch cover is scratched pretty thoroughly. I think with a bit of filing and touch up paint I can make the clutch cover look acceptable.

But, I'm wondering what my best route is for fairings? As far as I can tell, I have 3 options

    1) Find a set of OE fairings. This seems very difficult to do? And even if it could be done would probably set me back $600-700?

    2) Buy a set of china-made fairings. The issue here is that I hear the holes may not match up? And the colors may not match? And the quality may just over all not be as good. Also, id have to buy a full set. So again its looking like ~$600

    3) Get my current fairings resprayed. If I removed the fairings and took them to a body shop, I wonder how much they would charge. I'm guessing the "Upper" or headlight fairing could have have the small area sprayed where the scratches are by the turn signals. The lower may have to totally sprayed. Does anyone have experience with getting fairings repainted? Again, i'm thinking this would be an expensive proposition. Probably $500+ for even the cheapest of jobs. And no one wants the cheapest paint job!

Bummed, but it could be worse.

So, does anyone have experience replacing/repairing RWB fairings? Which option is best/most practical?

Where is Jethro in regard of Chinese fairing?

I bought mine with very slight rash on the left fairing right behind the turn signal. After a little looking I realized that the red stripes are actually stickers. Ordered new ones from partzilla and bam! Looks like a new bike! That's just those though, buy some touch up and keep riding. Unless you can't live with yourself, go oem. Chinese coloring sometimes doesn't match.

    Yah no chinois please!
They won't match at all and you will need to buy a full set. I have pictures and a thread somewhere with the whole sob story about my RWB. Just don't do the china stuff.

You are faced with on-line OEM parts from someone like Ron Ayres or keep watching e-bay for a decent set. It's rare to find used fairings in better shape that what you already have so don't plan on fixing this fast. I lucked out and scored a complete set of OEM RWB fairings including the tank if you can believe that for $600. Then the seller didn't pack them well and I got a dented tank. It was still better than the one I has so that's what I'm running now.

    Good luck!

Don't get the chinese ebay fairings. I did that for my 5th gen and it I may as well had just thrown the money in the garbage disposal. Yes, they were that bad.

I dropped my '06 yesterday, at the parking garage at work. I think the bike just stalled, as I was making a left. The low rev fuel delivery on the bike can be frustrating, but I've owned it long enough to know better. Just wasn't being careful. Left mirror broke off. Auxiliary light bracket bent. Could have been worse. Bike came with some minor, left-side faring cracks from original owner, who also dropped on the left side.

I too looked at options for replacing faring sections, but to me, it's not worth the expense, and obviously it doesn't affect the bike's performance, or how good I look on the bike :)

I ordered a left side replacement mirror off Amazon, not OEM, but recommend in a thread I found over on VFRdiscussion forum. I'll have to figure something out for the aux light bracket, as I'm not sure what the brand is for those lights.

    Sucks, but it happens.

Thank you all, for the tips. Even if they aren't what i'd like to hear!

I have a couple beat up, rattie, bikes. My VFR was my nice, clean, show off piece! Which is why i'm bummed because now i've made it look like the rest of my bikes! Dang!

I'll just keep riding it as is and hope to find a good deal on a set or just the pieces I need. I will be keeping it for many years to come. So I have time to be patient
