So, I had a small "fire" in the three yellow wires that go to the rectifier on my 1987 vfr 750.
Changed out the wires. All works, except the tachometer now shows way to much rpms.

Does it matter where the tree yellow wires connect?

I've ordered a new rectifier, but should I expect something else to be faulty too?

    My firs vfr post. yaaay.

    Love my old vfr :)

Double check all your wiring, especially other connectors for similar issues, also might want to check the stator. I thought there was a "sticky" somewhere in the sub-forums for R/R and Stator testing. I'll see if I can locate it.

The insulation on the three yellow wires was all gone and the wires was touching each other.
Changed them out and all looks good. Battery is charging... But taco is all waco..

After some reading I found out the signal to the tachometer on the 87- vfr 750 comes from the CDI-unit.
Should I expect the unit to be faulty?

System grounds and connections... Double check every single ground and connection before you do anything else (such as replacing the CDI or tach. A bad ground/connection could have been the cause of the stator wire failures in the first place, so it's very important that you double these.

Hmm... How about beginning with the charging system grounds... followed by the CDI and tach system grounds?

After the dreaded yellow wire fire I did hose off the dirty, smelly parts...
    Probably shouldn't have done that.

Guess ill have to whip out my probe and start troubleshooting bad/corroded connections .

    Thanks for good advise
