    Hello all,

I added this 06 VFR800-ABS over the 4th of July holiday. It has about 4800 miles on it and I got it for $4500. All in all it is in very nice shape. No dings or scratches. I've been able to find a replacement set of rear pegs that I should have installed within a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here. Seems like a really nice group. I'm in East Tennessee so hopefully over time I'll get to meet a few of you as well.

I've been active with the RC-51 group for several years as well.

Nice bikes, and welcome to the forum. What was the motivation for snagging the VFR? Maybe you could gives us your comparison between the two rides.

Thanks for the replies. This is actually the second VFR I've owned. Not to date myself but I had a 700 back in the '80s. The owner of this VFR had tons of cool toys but not a lot of knowledge. He did not realize this was an ABS version or what the significance in price might be. He did not list it on Craigslist with ABS and originally priced it way too high. I have to say that other than the missing pegs it is literally perfect. There is an aftermarket wind screen on it that is OK and also a hugger has been installed. After a month of listing he had dropped the price so I took a chance and drove two hours to see it. I had planned on offering him even less but once I saw what it was I thought better of that plan. I wanted it for something more comfortable and a way to keep miles off of the other bike.

As for my RC-51 I picked it up three or four years ago with only 4500 miles on the clock. It is in much better shape now. I've done several mods to it. Ceramic coated headers, hugger, PC3 etc etc.. If you've never ridden one of them they are definitely not for comfort. Even for a sport bike they are aggressive in seating position. By today's standards they aren't going to pull your arms off. Mine is making around 130HP so a new 600 would likely take it with equal riders. That said, it isn't why I bought it. THE SOUND! OMG these are just amazing to hear. They will fool you because of the way the make power, it just keeps pulling smoothly till you are going faster than you might have guessed. There is not a hit of acceleration like a I4. They also handle really well and do make great track day toys. The heritage is cool and they are becoming more rare. There were only about 15,000 of them made worldwide for all years of production. The engines were hand built by HRC and shipped to the Honda assembly plant and put in the frames. They have gear driven cams, magnesium cases, and two massive 62mm throttle bodies along with some of the best stock brakes ever put on a street bike. For 04 like mine they were all Nicky Hayden tribute models here in the US. Riders from Rossi to Joey Dunlop have raced and won on them. They were built to satisfy homologation rules originally and the guess was that Honda did not make a lot of money on them even at the original prices. Sorry to ramble on but I do love these things.

BTW RVMiller, that pic is from the Chrohala Skyway.

Congrats on the VFR....now all we need is that engine (RC) in the VFR.
Wierd that I thought all the black viffers came with black frames. Anyways...sorry to say but looks like the RC will be sitting around alot after you fall in love with the new girl...an occasional blast on a Sunday...maybe
Always loved the RC but after sitting on one decided to go for the Interceptor.....be safe man

I definitely want to get back up there and ride more. You are lucky to have all those great roads in your backyard.

    Be safe/ATGATT

129 "The Dragon" has turned in to the "Harley Highway". I actually rarely ride across it. There are so many cruisers with a few weekend wanna'bees thrown together it really is a problem. (For god's sake people go to a track day and quit street racing.):mad-new: Anyway, there are a lot of great other roads that are a lot of fun in this area. I recently took a ride across the top of the Smoky's and down in to Maggie Valley to the Wheels Through Time museum. It was a great day out with a run up the Blue Ridge Parkway. I can't wait for the cooler fall weather to really spend some time with the VFR. It is so smooth and easy to ride. I really do like what I've ridden so far.

Looks like the original owner got a bit carried away with the decals. Are you gonne leave them there, or try and remove them? (VFR,HONDA,HRC) Just curious if you like that treatment. Personally, I don't care much for that giant VFR that spans 2 panels. If it were half the size and better positioned, it might not look too bad.

Funny you say that. HRC was gone within 24 hours. Im still debating the others. The full blackout is a nice look. In general I am not much on stickers either.

The gentleman I purchased this one from called me up this afternoon to tell me he remembered having a couple of accessories I might want. He has the grab handles and the matching seat cowl if i wanted to drop by and pick them up. There are truly some first class people out there.

TNRC, congrats on the new ride, its looks nice.

i recently relocated back to ET (knoxville) and ride alot around the skyway, parkway, and much less frequently the dragon.
give me a shout via PM if you are nearby and wanna get together for some VFR fun, or need any help or info

an RC51 has always been on my shortlist, but i think now that a decent one is never gonna come down into my pricepoint
i had the little hawk 650 for a couple of years, and am looking at a VTR-1000 superhawk near me now. i may just bite on it

anyway... welcome to the nut-house, and just shout if you wanna ride nearby anytime.

PS- we have had a couple of SE G-2-G before, and im prob gonna try to org one for this fall, prob at robbinsville or nearby

Abner. I will definitely give you a shout. I live very near the parkway and frequently cruise up there also.
