I recently aquired a 1991 VFR. Bike seems to be in pretty good condition for its age and mileage. I've been riding it about a week now including a 400 mile loop with the guys and 4-5 days commuting to work (~80-100 miles/day). In one week I already have well over 1k miles on it.

Bike is pretty well maintained. It has a replaced/upgraded R/R, freshened suspension, brakes, bearings, and tires. The carbs were cleaned and balanced within the last 7-8k miles and the valves checked since then. Bike has been 98% rock solid.

I just can't help myself. I want to throw some parts at it and make it mine.. make it better. Yadda yadda.

If you were doing it over again, which modifications would you tackle first and why?

I have some ideas. But first I am curious to hear from some who have been there, done that and can offer some retrospect.

    Thanks in advance! :cheersaf:

My 1992 VFR was factory delivered with just one (left) headlight for regular light. Both did work for high beam.

It turned out both headlights use normal H4 lights, but on the right the normal beam wasn't connected. Although there was place for the metal part of the connector.

So yesterday I got the metallic plate for in the connector and soldered it with a wire to the other headlight. Now my bike is symmetric :triumphant:.

This was my first upgrade. I just have my bike for a month. So I am also curious for other upgrades.

Im in the same position as you, just got my 93 a couple months ago and love it but would love to add some tasteful mods. Ive been searching for a left exit exhaust but they are nearly impossible to find.

Your bike takes a special Honda lamp. There is an adapter available to mount a standard H4.

Mine takes a normal H4, it looks without modification or adapter. Maybe a previous owner has modified the holder to a standard H4 fitting.

Could be. Stated that the bike was "factory delivered" like that made it confusing. The adapters are aboo the size of US half dollar coin and made of very thin stainless steel. Aboot 12 USD here. Same fitment for some ST100 Hondas and the 1990 and 1991 Honda VFRs. The Honda lamp was in the range of 40 USD and the standard H4s here are in the 10 USD range.

I have seen his one. Should have been more specific. I meant the two bros racing left exit exhaust. I have spoke to sandys bike spares and they prefer to do business through their website. I have not seen anyone else on the forum with this exhaust so shelling out that kind of cash with no idea on the quality is a little risky IMO. I may go with it if I cant find a two bros system soon.

Funny, I got a 93 recently, before that I never saw one of those propriatory honda bulbs before. Got some h4 bulbs waiting when I need them. My bike came with new chain n sprockets (replaced master link.) New tyres and a year old battery. So that took some of the heat off.

Make sure your tyres are good and use good oil. Other than that enjoy the super ride. What you pay for it if you dont mind answering

I paid less than half what kbb says fair retail is. Although I honestly think their number is ridiculous. Key take away is that I think I got a pretty fair price.

Seller says "Headlights upgraded to 55W (stock were 35W)"
Something tells me she did the H4 upgrade already.

Normally my MO is to tackle the suspension. I like bikes that handle. But to some extent that isn't my goal with this one. I bought the VFR because of the engine. Compared to everything else I have, she handles a little like a hippo on roller skates. Steering is heavy and requires a lot more effort than I am used to. This despite the bike having worked over suspension. PO tells me the front has progressive aftermarket springs and was rebuilt >10k miles ago. Rear is a Hyperpro. I'm not in love with the suspension setup; ride is a little stiff. But I'm not prepared to screw with it.

Brakes are pretty darn good. PO upgraded the front to braided lines at some point. They have a little play and need a flush at some point.. but they are way better than my rubber line'd primary rider. Not too shabby, and not worthy of upgrade.

Bike has a Corbin. Riding this saddle for a week has opened my eyes to aftermarket saddles. So much that I just placed orders for Seat Concepts kits for my other rides.

Cosmetics aren't really my bag. And I think what I have is good 'nuf.

I was thinking more along the lines of a ridiculous, obscene exhaust. I think the real selling point of this VFR is that sexy V4. I'd like to hear more of it.

The H4s can be made to fit by clipping off one of the tabs. This results in a loose fit. Kinda works sorta..

Just ditch the muffler and run it out of the headers. You will hear more for sure. It may look like shit but will sound great.

Its sux clipping the ears because they are never perfectly seated in the headlight bezel, I found these http://www.electricalconnection.com/non-electrical/h4_shim.htm

After riding for tens of thousands of miles and close to two decades. These things work flat oot.

That's a nice bike above for sale in Mt Vernon. Like you said, you could buy that and scavenge and re-sell parts/keep parts and make oot ok. Just don't tell the little missus...

Yah they used to spend a little more time on the details like that. Funny thing was that you never say it all tucked up and streamlined cause you were riding it.
