Has a Power Commander made a great difference to anyones 5th gen bike?
Thinking of buying one, but not sure if it has a good bang for buck ratio.
I have a 2001 model with Staintune and no baffles + K&N with no pair valves, and I can't say I'm unhappy with the way it fuels.
Since getting a very accurate vacuum meter, and redoing my starter valves, it is idling and responding the best it ever has.
It is still a bit touchy at very slow first gear corners, but familiarity has cured past concerns.
    Do I go for it?

I never really noticed an power gain, but it helped smooth out the off-idle transition. I consider it worth the price of admission, but then I really like gadgets. :kiwi-fruit:

I have an old dynojet power commander II with the serial port which is hard to use these days. Overall I really liked the way it smoothed out acceleration while shifting, it is noticeable. Initially my setup caused the FI light to come on when in operation but the guy at dynojet sent me an adjusted map which corrected that problem. I have not had any problems, "knock on wood", but I have often wondered if the file upload on the firmware ever goes corrupt. Or if you need to reload the map from time to time. I have never done that.

    I'm looking for a PC2 map for a '99 49-state bike with slip on and K&N. Anyone?

I haven't tried a serial to USB adapter yet, but have an old laptop around with serial port for updates. For the price you could probably get one for now I'd say go for it, it can help smooth out that part throttle response.

I put a PC5 on my 2001. I replaced the header with a 99 spec unit and put on a high mount GPR exhaust and a K&N filter. While it has not turned to bike into a raging lunatic, I have noticed much better acceleration (smoother across the band) and it seems to respond quicker to throttle inputs. Overall well worth the cost.

Made my 2001 much easier to handle at low speeds, smoothed out the low speed jerkiness. That alone was enough for me.
