just bought this yesterday on an impulse. It had been sitting in a humid barn for seven years. It has 13k miles on it and the rear cams and top end looks almost new.
Right now I am trying to get it running. I have cleaned the carbs and spark plugs. I seem to be getting an intermittent spark and tach bounce. I am trying to start it from a stock size battery from a lawn mower. This coming Wednesday I am going to try to start it from a car battery and buy new plugs. Pics coming shortly the bike is very rough. I am gravity feeding the carbs currently bypassing the fuel pump. Later this week I am going to replace the spark plugs and use a car battery.

    Welcome to the forums bordin,

I'd skip the car battery idea and wait until you have the proper bat and new plugs. Meanwhile, you'll probably want to check the condition of the starter relay and the various wiring harness connectors and terminals. Gravity feeding those carbs might require that you have the tank about 3/4s full (I could be wrong about this tho). Also make sure that the tank venting system is clear.

Bet that bike is glad you rescued her! And I gotta say that she sure looks a darn sight better than the '94 Sportster that I've been bring back to life since 2013...

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks the tank is too rusty to use and the lock cylinder is frozen. What would the starter relay have to do with spark. It cranks over fine.

Sorry, meant to say fuel pump relay.

Seven years of sitting in a humid barn can, of course, take a toll on electrical devices (i.e. ignition and kill switch, fuel pump relay, starter relay, etc.

Thanks I can hear the relay click when I flip the kill switch from off to run and the fuel pump does pump. I think I am going to check the gap of the ignition crank pickup.

I changed the oil, replaced the plugs, cleaned the carbs, and found out I didnt plug the pulse generator connector back in. It fired right up with my gatorade fuel tank.
It sounds like I definitely need to adjust the valve lash.

Definately wana pop the vavle covers off and use some feeler gauges. I am sure your gona have a nice "one on one" with both the front and rear calipers. As long as you have something else to ride while your working on it, take your time and enjoy it.

Good pictures of the beasty btw.

The entire hydraulic system is in desperate need of an overhaul. Im going to get rebuild kits for the masters and try to flush the rest of the system.

If it were me, I would start with taking the calipers apart and see where you stand as far as corrosion on the inside/how the pistons look, etc. If the pistons clean up nice and you can clean all the mug and crud oot of the grooves where the seals go, you may be ok and not have to pop for a rebuild on the master cylinders. Can always pull off a brake/clutch lever and see the if they are all calictrated where the plunger goes into the master.

I got a donor caliper on my "project" and robbed the piston along with a brake line. Thank you Ebay.

I adjusted the lash today and it needs ones cam. The number two intake side lobe is going flat and is what is making that noise.

Anybody know if the sabre, magna, and interceptor cams are interchangeable?

I managed to pick up some decent looking cams on ebay for $17 plus shipping.
I am now going to pull the engine and refinish the frame.
