On the VFRD forum they are discussing the new VFR800. Unbelievable.
All the guys who never rode a VFR1200 and bad mouthed it extensively all the while whining about how Big Red didn't give the market a new VFR that was improved from the prior gens are now bad mouthing the new VFR and making excuses about why they won't buy a new one and will be keeping their current mounts.
    WTF ??
All of these bikes (7th and 8th) are far better machines than these folks are riders almost certainly.
Just thought it interesting to read the excuse making begin now that they all got their wishes. One even said it was the same as a 2009 but with new plastic.
    Unbelievable.

I will buy one at 34% of its list price just like my 800, till then I think my 800 is better and I know it sounds better and is cheap to run too and you will run out of gas long before I do:spit::flamer::boxing2:

It looks like a nice bike! If gawd forbid a hurricane hits and rips the roof off my two garages and carries my four motorcycles away, and if I was in the market for a "new" bike, I would buy it and not regret it!

New is New, Nuff-Sed...You think a Hayabusa would make my butt look fat?

If it came out with a 1000cc engine, gear driven cams, upside down forks, Brembo brakes, and an electronic package, the same people would still complain about it.
They would first complain that it cost too much, and that Honda missed the point.
If it came out with all the gear above, and cost under $6000, they would complain that it didn't have a "Wank-O-matic" switch, and that the colour of the tyres was slightly out.
The worst thing was that they started complaining about it even before anyone had ridden one.
Don't get me wrong, I have a 5th gen and I love it, but would I buy a new one if I could afford it? Hell yes.
And do I think it would be a better bike then any of the current ones? Off course it is.
The people that complain would never buy anything new, no matter what it came out with.

Do we take "I for one" as a minor grammar error or does this this have some deeper meaning? Multiple personalitys? Schizophrenia? Secret harleydood?

    Hey BB

Do you think they ever changed out the damned R/R's to use something with a bit more longevity, or should we get you started on that one?? LOL

We can always hope. Until someone buys one of the new ones and the R/R craps, we may never know..........

I wanted to make this same thread after reading the threads about the new bikes.

It started when I picked up my '07 6th gen a couple of weeks ago after owning a 4th gen for 2 1/2 years. I always was judgemental of the later ones, everything from VTEC, to side mounted radiators, looks, blah blah--everything pretty much. Then I rode one--holy crap. Light years better than my 4th gen.

Then it got me thinking about the VFR1200. How much hate that got. Let's go down the list for why it was made that way:

    Honda thought,
-Most VFR owners are getting older, lets give them something comfortable to eat up the miles.
-Chain maintenance kinda sucks, lets give them an awesome shaft drive.
-VTEC got some criticism, let's drop that for now.
-They wanted more power, so let's give it over 50% more.
    -Keep the SSSA
-Let's not make it look like every other Jap bike out there, so let's have our cake and eat it, too. Moto GP derived fairing function and unique looks.
    -Let's make it bulletproof.
-Not much room for gas tank, but it gets similar mileage as the old one.
-Slipper clutches will make them happy as well.
-Oh, and USD forks and adjustable suspension for once.
-Traction control and ABS (monobloc brakes) for the win! They'll love it!

And what was the response? The flood gates opened with harsh criticism from everybody, especially those that have never ridden one or never will. I am fairly sure, (without riding one), that it would be a fantastic bike and doesn't deserve the hate that it got.

The new bike seems like a nice upgrade from the 6th gen, like a blend of 5th and 6th gens. I think it's gonna be a great bike.

But, no, VFR riders are as snobby as Ducatistis, and think their generation of bike is the best no matter what.

I'm over it--I think they are all great, but my RWB 6th gen is the best!

    Oh crap...

Pretty much lucked oot on stators. I met my quota on R/R's a long time ago.

Honda knew about this from the git-go. There were "fixes" for on VFR BB's as far back as 1992. Dude from OZ who cooled the unit with a 12v muffin fan.

The Honda thing is technical but moreso cultural. The concepts are both "rice bowl" and "face". On this side of the pond we can lay some of this on DOT.. A failed stator/RR is not considered in the same light as something like a brake or steering failure that will kill ya quick. Just because it might cost a thousand pesos when one or the other craps out is, in the eyes of both parties, not life threatening.

The harleydood thing is cultural too. Grown in a Petri Dish. As a DIY example, a damp slice of Wonder Bread in a ZipLock will do..;)

Came on man, everyone knows that the reason they stopped making the best bike ever made (2001VFR) was because the world could no longer tolerate the noise it made.
