Rear shock is a critical issue of any bike, expecially if the machine has got some years and Kms on the shoulders.
I' m looking for a stock shock which can be fitted on the bike with minimum mods. If it is a bit longer (eye to eye) it is even better for my needs.

    Did anyone try with CBR929's?
Or CBR600? In this case which M.Y.?

    thanks

Hi, I replaced two stock shocks 83-750f and 84-1000f. Both were toast the replacement's came from 600. The newer shock was four or so inches shorter so brackets were made to keep eye to eye distance the same. Also new spring for my weight I also replaced the stock fork springs. The rear shock would compress when I sat on it but would take minutes to rebound! Anyway you could ask for longer brackets or make your own. Just make sure the linkage won't bind. I had to grind the shock tower out about the size of a quarter and heat gut the coolant tank a bit, if you chose non remote resivour model these mods would not have to happen.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
Im also checking a GSR600/750 shock which is 33 cm long from eye to eye. As my bike is slightly modified it could fit. Have to ask my mech, in any case to be sure.

How about buy one that was designed for the bike in mind? Hagon, YSS, and Works makes new shocks for Gen 1 and 2 the last time I checked.

Dukie's right; there is alot more to getting a good shock than simply mounting one that fits !! Most stock shocks are weak, so fitting one from another bike is usually no improvement.

Stock VFR shock works through linkages, so no direct-action shock would work unless specially modified.

If you dont want to spend the buck for the item plus shipment plus import taxes, there are some alternatives out there. It'll take some work of adjustment, but if you get the right piece, you spend less and experience greater satisfaction.

Jaimie did the two for me, and they work great! I don't race or do any fast twisty roads mind you. But they are far me way better than the stocker! I would buy again if needed for another bike. Pat

I had Jamie D build me a shock over the winter for my vf 500 and it makes the ride so much better. I highly recommend him

Possibly your option is the best cost effective one. Unluckily, on my side, beyond the cost of the naked item, I have to consider shipping and custom expences.. In any case shouldnt I grab a slightly modified OEM chance, I'll be opting for JamieDaugherty's products very probably.

Yours is possibly one of the best alternatives. At the moment, considering my extra due expences (shipment, customs et altera), it is slightly and unluckily over budgeted. We'll get in touch in any case. tx
