Hey guys, I'm bout to pick up my first VFR this after noon. Its a 2006 VFR800 and I really like it but I want to get a rear seat cowl for it. Just wondering what years have the same parts that work for more than one year. Also I want to get frame sliders and maybe hard bags at some point. Any others things you would recommend putting on???

    Thanks
    Casey

Forget frame sliders, read my signature.
OEM bags for long-distance riding can't be beat. If the ergonomics bother you, I recommend to change the bars to helibars or similar for a more up-right seating position.
    Welcome.

:welcome: Lots of good info and people in here!!

Yours is a 6th gen, which is 2002-2009. There is a 6th gen sub forum in the forums...
Helibars and a Sargent seat are must haves if you want a more touring seating postion but still sporty.

Check out Davidsilverspares for factory hard bags. Still has black and silver left for $500 including all hardware.

You might be able to find a used rear cowl on craigslist/fleabay, but you can also buy brand new. Cheapest will be RonAyers.com or Partzilla.com.

Ebay and the such are best bet if you don't want to spend much.
+ 1 for what Badbilly said, ride it for a while and see what you don't like.
I'm 51, and have no problem with ergonomics.
Once you decide to change something, this is the place to search.
    Welcome.

Lots of people recommend helibars, but I'm perfectly happy with my OEM handlebars. The OEM seat is not terrible, but a Sargent sure would be nice~

Thanks everyone for all advice. I've been riding it for about 5 days and I'm loving it so far. Hard bags will be later down the road for sure. Don't think seat of riding position is bad, I'm 24 so it's pretty nice. Defiantly want to take some longer trips this summer tho.

Back in the day, which was just a few weeks ago, sheepskin covers were the hot item.. Having plunked down some serious pesos for a leather seat from (shameless plug again) Rich O'Connor at Rich's Seats for my BMW tossing what looked like a dead sheep on my bike was not gonna happen, hot ass or not.

Bought a piece of dyed sheepskin from a source in Tacoma, WA , made a pattern from freezer paper leaving some selvage, hit a loft shop for some of that nifty plastic hardware and had a shoeshop guy sew it all together. So far my buns are cool (naturally) and no one has so far, accused me of cruelty to animals or other such nefarious activity..
