So I've lost interest in getting the old Interceptor up and running again on my own steam. With the new baby I don't have the time that I used to have to spend wrenching away in the garage. I also feel that I've bitten off a little more than I can chew. I am considering putting her up for sale as a project bike. What do you all think would be a fair asking price?

1983 VF750 Interceptor with 33K miles in running condition w/ clean title.

From what I can tell here's what she needs:

    Carb cleaning
    valve adjustment
    Tires
    Chain
    Rear brake caliper rebuild
    Rear suspension replacement.
    New horn
Blinkers not working properly (front ones stay on)
    Right side cover missing.

The above seems to be the major work to get her back on the road safely. I did take it around town yesterday so she still has some life left in her. If I could get all this work done for under $1K I'd definitely consider keeping it as I do recognized the bikes importance as a future collectible.

I paid $500 can. and it was not as good as yours. Mine had 53000 mi. on it and took a lot to fix up.
I would think you could get $1200 or more for it.

Not a collectable bike imo cuz it's seriously flawed and produced in large quantities. The only collectable VFs have less than 1000 street miles and show NO wear.

Is the tank clean and rust-free? Are the cam surfaces clean? Do the cam chain tensioners make the "wrong" kind of noise? There are many vaiables with the VF750/700F.

A member suggested $1200. That might a good opening price. But people who know the 1st Generation tend to shy away from them I speak as an "experienced" past owner of a 1984 VF750F - so you might be low-balled.

The knocking noise you describe usually proceeds a nasty engine disintegration.......unless it's another, different noise.
