Hello all, Not been about much for a while, but i thought some of you guys might be interested in an endurance run i am doing called The Longest Day Down Challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK. The idea of the event is to travel between the most extreme points of the British mainland, John O'Groats, Scotland and Lands End, England in 24 hours on motorcycles of less than £300 (not including tyres, tax & insurance) and not using motorways, only main 'A' roads to travel the 906 miles on the longest day of the year here in the UK (21st June). I have chosen to do this challenge on a 1986 VF500, that belonged to my dad, he's suffered from cancer twice in the last 15 year and thankfully has been in remission both times, the VF sat in his shed for 16 years before he passed it on to me a couple of years ago, and only in the last few days have i got the old girl on the road after 18 years been laid up. Please read about the event here: http://www.thelongestdaydownchallenge.co.uk/ And if you wish to donate you can do so here:http://www.justgiving.com/teams/ldd2014 My name is Mark Adams. This is a tough event for old motorcycles, lasts years event took the first person just over 21 hours, with many not making Lands End by sunrise on the 22nd june and some other not at all. There are a number of V four Honda's doing the run, namely 750's plus a miriad of crap bikes also taking part. There will be updates on the day of the event via The Longest Day Down Facebook page and also a Twitter feed as well. Thanks Mark.
Good luck for the ride. I did a 4600km ride for charity last September - almost al the way across Australia. You're lucky the uk is so small that you can do it in a day. I was lucky in having my scooter to ride (CBR1100xx) as it performed flawlessly. You are brave doing it on an old bike. If you are riding through the night buy an osram plus 80 headlight bulb for the old girl. At least you will be able to see where you are going.
Cheers, will have a look for those bulbs, i'm doing a run to see how far she will go on a full tank (keeping a full jerry can in the tank bag of course) tomorrow, i'm hoping to get about 160 170 miles on one tank.
