Hazard lights aren't working..

    Can't get my hazards to come on. (2005 VFR 800). Tried the ignition on position and hazard position, no go. This bike is fairly new to me so I'm a little clueless right now. I'm about to dig into the fuse box. Any other suggestions? Thank you

    Have you tried taking the switch apart and check for rust, or loose contacts?

    I have no idea if its related, but the 2002 to 2005 VFRs did have a recall on a wiring harness (or two). I know one of these harnesses in the front of the bike.

    Since you say its new to you, can't hurt to call Honda or your local Honda dealership, run the VIN, and see if the recall was done.

    Took switch apart, everything intact. Called Honda dealer regarding recall, will get back to me tomorrow. Thank you.

    Sorry I have only just spotted this one (been out on the bike - as its stopped snowing at last).

    This is probably a long shot but I wonder if you are being confused trying to follow the poorly written instructions in the owners manual?

    Compared with several previous bikes/from other manufacturers, the Hazard light operation on my 2007 has a uniquely Honda flavour, and is probably overly complex with effectively two interlinked operating positions.

    The manual does not make clear that the hazards will not turn on if you just flip the right handle bar switch to the "Hazard" position.

    You also need to have the ignition key in the lock and turned to at least the "on" position (or with the engine running).

    Why? - This stops people fiddling with the bike when it is left unattended and turning them on - so you return to find the battery drained. It also ensures that if the bike fails whist riding you can simply flip the switch and hopefully the hazard lights will warn other road users.

    This safety feature sort of makes sense when you also realise that Honda have also provided an extra "hazard position" on the ignition key lock. So if you want to leave the bike unattended with the hazard lights operating, you won't want to leave the key in the bike, so after you have got the hazard lights operating, you can turn the ignition key around to the "hazard position" and withdraw the key from the lock. The hazard lights will then stay on until you return or the battery dies!

    Assuming there is something else wrong, it is worth reviewing the wring diagram which shows how the hazard circuit connects into the turn signal wiring - so it is worth checking your turn signals are working OK as that should rule out things like bulbs and a chunk of the wiring.
