Is there something electrical causing this problem? or is it just broken

Download the Fifth Generation service manual. There's a section on testing the tach. It's electrically driven, and it could be loose connectors or something actually faulty. It could be loose connectors, a bad tach, or even a bad ECM.

We cleaned the connectors today and the tach does work until the engine temp gets to around 175 then it quits again, well at least I have it for the first few minutes of each ride hahaha

Sounds like the connections on the motor end could be problematic, or the relay is bad (not sure where it's located). Since the failure seems temp-related, my guess would be that it is NOT a bad tach as it's too far from the heat source.

I haven't seen that particular manual, so I don't know what info it has on troubleshooting the tach. I know you can download the Honda one easily, and it has a section about how to troubleshoot this issue.
