I rebuilt the forks on my VF500f. Everything went smoothly [or so I thought] and I just installed them back on the bike.

As I was cleaning up I tripped over my bucket full o' mineral spirits that I used to clean the forks parts in. Along with a quart of toxic waste, these guys rolled out onto the floor. I guess they were sitting on the bottom and I never noticed where they came from. They appear to be some sort of hardened steel spring seat. Very thin. I popped the fork caps off and they match the OD of the spring. The fork cap appears to have a hardened steel insert pressed in, so I'm guessing they don't go on top.

I've been pouring over the manual and parts fische and I can't figure out where they go.

    specs:
    ID: 23mm
    OD: 28.5

    Any ideas???

Looks like #59; sits on top of each spring.

If I remember right that's either part #9 or 23, I remember putting them back in when I did mine.

Sorry guys - this was a trick question.

I tore apart the spare pair or forks I had. I had no luck locating the washers. I thought about what else had been cleaned out in that bucket...

As it turns out, when I tore down the front-end, I cleaned out the speedo-gear. I checked the parts fische and hey! there they are:

Case closed! Time for a beer.

it does go where number 59 looks like it goes. When I rebuilt my forks they were actually stuck to the bottom of the caps. They are there to keep the steel spring from digging into the aluminum cap. They aren't on the drawing on any of the parts places or in my factory service manual.

That is so weird because at first glance they looked like those speedo gear shims. I would get them back in there or else you will induce a lot of wear on the worm drive. I've seen those break for less!
