Hey there guys. I'm Adam and living in San Diego and I'm brand new to this forum and to bikes in general (uh oh). I came from owning an 89' bmw 325i and worked on that guy quiet a bit. Now I got to college, at Mesa, for international business and economics and only have college kid money to play with. So I bought an 87' vfr 700 and wanted to make my introduction here for introduction's sake but also for a little help with some of the problems. I've downloaded the manuals and I'm going to learn how to maintain the beast but I need to have this bike running within a week or two. If any of you san diegoites, san diegOns, san diegans know of any shops or people that are willing to touch the thing, let me know!

    The good:

    -Almost free
    -New chain
    -New Battery
    -New voltage regulator
    -New front and rear tires
-General service on bike and carbs (Done in TJ so very suspect)

    The bad:

-The bike doesn't start. It cranks but it seems like the fuel isn't getting to where it needs to go. Seller claimed it was running a week or two ago so doesn't seem like it's a fuel sitting issue.
-cosmetics are rough and it seems like the seller gave up on the fairings, for saving moneys' sake, headed the 'naked' route.
    -side view mirrors are cracked
-no turn signals, after market led tail light (yuck)
    -gauge cluster cover is cracked
-cracked radiator around the cap. Is JB welded

So any suggestions, ideas and what not are welcome. I know it's going to be an uphill battle but that's how you learn. Also wanted to know between the compatibility of an 84 to 87 and such. Like jerry rigging the rear tail section from 84 to 87 and radiators and the likes.

'86-'89 will work for body parts. Look for the tail section on European eBay. They had the VFR all four years as opposed to just '86-'87 stateside. I saw a good set of fiberglass fairings on US eBay the other day and the side covers are usually available. Return that bitch to her former red, white, and blue glory! Naked is for chicks.

Soooooooo, I'm an idiot. Being an '87 it probably wasn't R/W/B to begin with lol.

    Hi
Being a European, and having a vfr700 1987, I can tell you that the 88 89 fairing will not fit unless you fit all the parts including mounts.
The tanks are the same, as is the seat/tail unit. The side panels will fit but are cosmetically different. The vents are in a different place.
87f2 models where available in pearl white and a metallic blue colour. There was not a R/W/B option.
