Does anybody know if there is a locking rear wheel lug for the bike?

I no longer have a garage (she got it) but I do have a covered parking spot and a post that I am locking my VFR to.

    Thanks in advance,

    Rob in Tampa/ Clearwater now...

I would just loop the lock thru the drive-chain and wheel. Gonna take some extra time to take off a wheel, and cut thru a drive chain. I would worry more of a thief cutting thru your lock than taking off the wheel, since it would be faster. Thieves look for the fastest/easiest turn-over for a quick buck. Think of ways to make them need to take more time, and too much time involved = leaving your bike for an easier target.

I would urge you to consider a disc lock and/or or an alarm as well. You can get one that pages you when your bike is disturbed. Also, use a cover, and lock the cover. The less a man sees from a glance......

I have a disc lock on the front already. I am paranoid/ I was raised by a Police officer that trusted no one.

Bikes are very easy to steal (pick up and throw in a truck/van), so you have to be on vigilant. I would the drive-chain trick as this will make it more involved for them. Disc locks are good, but an alarm that pages you would be better.

I think he's asking for a wheel lock so no one will steal his wheel, if that is what youre asking, you can use any wheel lock offered by Honda automobiles with alloy wheels. Honda uses a ball seat type lugs so you can go to any Honda car dealer and buy a lock set for say a newer gen Honda Fit with alloy wheels and they locks will work.

The factory Honda automotive wheel locks might not fit. I should say the key might not fit the bore opening of the VFR wheel. Not a deal breaker you may just have to try a set of aftermarket wheel locks. If OEM Honda does't work take one your lug nuts to your local auto parts store or wheel shop. Both should have a good selection of locking lugs. A good wheel shop should also have some fancy colored anodized ones if your looking for a little bling.

They fit, that's how i was able to source black lugs for my Viffer....it was for a Honda Fit. They are even the same diameter for the lug wrench so no additional tool was needed.

Yes it does, what it is the lock set lug is slightly smaller then the normal lug so the lock socket is about the same as using a normal wrench on a normal nut. And since the automotive lug comes as a set of 4 you might as well run a lock on all 4 lugs haha.

I think the front/reat locks are pretty much a deterent....

Put another couple disc locks on there & nobody will even LOOK at it~

If someone wants your bike they are going to scout it. If there are disc locks on both wheels they will just bring spare wheels. If your chain merely goes through the rear wheel or swingarm they will again just take the wheel off and chain is removed, the chain must go through the frame and it needs to be thicker than a standard issue bolt cutter can deal with.

There was a reddit post fairly recently from a professional who dealt in stolen bikes, he said a real thief is going to ride the bike away not throw it in a van or truck. The only real deterrent is making your bike look less appealing than those around you with locks and covers. Keep in mind VFRs aren't a high demand bike so are incredibly unlikely to be stolen compared to say a GSXR1000 or Busa.

Bicycle u-locks are extremely easy to defeat, especially the way you have it locked up. I could not set it up more perfect for me to pop it if I tried. 5-10 seconds for a pro, 30 seconds for an a amateur like me (I have done it myself to see how easy it is). New York Kryptonite Chain would be better. I think the OP is ignoring my advice so I wish him the best of luck.

    Cheers,

That is a "Kryptonite" disc lock, cable and U lock (U lock is a level -4)that I bought/ have owned since 1996 that I used when I first began riding. That cable saved my motorcycle (FZR 600) from being stolen then. I sold that bike but hung onto the Kryptonite locks all these years.

I will be buying a bike cover soon as I can. I gave my old cover away and it was to small for the VFR anyway... I have not ignored any advice but yes, I was mostly inquiring about a locking wheel lug. There are other bikes at my apt complex that are not locked up at all. I have the only VFR here though.

Just my 2c (I live in South Africa, so I am somewhat qualified:biggrin-new:) Try get the bike closer and make everything tighter and more cramped. Looking at you pics there seems to be a lot of space to get in with a chisell or even a grinder. Would second locking up the frame too. The 4th gen has a cuttout in the frame that is apparently for chaining up the bike, don't know if your model does. Another thing to remember is to be really brutal in your thinking, thieves don't care about what damage they have to do to get at something.
