I did a demo ride on an FZ9 Yamaha the other day. Did not particularly care for the bike. Super soft suspension. A torquey powerful motor that felt like it was running lean in all three modes, and a not particularly comfortable riding position.

Took my 1995 VFR750 out today. Loved the motor, linear and torquey. Good suspension and riding position, and plain fun to ride.

So again thank you FZ9 for showing me what a great bike my VFR is, and how little I need a new bike.

Thought the same thing myself just from sitting on one in the dealership here. Not a bad bike but not a great one either. I don't care how cheap it is.

What was the Triples engine characteristics like ?

The current FZ9 is too Street / Mega Motard-ish for me, it may be interesting to try out a FZ9S / ST variant like belows Concept photo if they decide to make one.

The FZ9 motor in full power mode has great torque. It pulls from low rpm with little complaint. It's very smooth and quiet. The exhaust sound is really nice, and raspy. Only complaint with the engine is the mapping.

Rode the FZ7 just before the FZ9 and preferred it all around. The 700cc motor has plenty of grunt. My only complaint about that bike was the noisy engine. Sounds like it is on the point of destructing, but I think most of that noise is down to the airbox noises.

I would think suspension upgrades and PCV + pipe would make it stellar. How much are they going for in your part of the woods?

Going for $9200 Canadian at the local dealer. By the time you factor in a decent rear shock, front fork work and mapping, much more than I would want to pay.
