I just got a 1985 700 interceptor 2 weeks ago. It is in need of lots of work mechanical and body. It has a lot of issues that I am searching on here and the service manual. looking to ride it a little while, then upgrade to a newer model. luckily most parts wont be a big problem as I also got a parts bike a week later :smug: I will add some pics when I figure out how to do it.
Thanks for the welcome still trying to figure out how to ad pics, i will get them added though. even though their not pretty lol
don't have pics of all the plastics after minor cracks were repaired as I got it with plastics removed tank with dent bad weld on than removed weld then soldered it side fairings front fairing parts bike in back of truck
Welcome aboard. Not sure where in CNY you are (I assume you mean Central NY)?. Member on here by the name of Squirrelman is very familiar with these bikes and is from Buffalo. Just like these old bikes, he is crotchety, ornery, could break down at any minute, and is temperamental. But he has been around these bikes for a while.
Thanks everyone for the welcome all but the tank and front fender are in primer now just got all the gaskets I ordered hope to get the engine off this weekend. Yes Pliskin I meant Central NY I am about 45 minutes from Syracuse. I have seem quite a few posts from Squirrlman in my searches.
I'll help anybody i can help with suggestions and advice no matter how old or impractical the bike. It's well known that i think that most VFs are unworthy moneypits whose best days are far in the past, and we see alot of unfixable examples show up here. Available cheap in most cases with multiple problems that need solving and parts that need replacement, i just can't see why riders wouldn't look for a gen 2 (or newer) to start working on cuz in the end you'll have a better, more reliable bike. First VFR for me in 1990 (still have it) and working on them since. In this case, i'm guessing the fuel tank is in need of an internal coating or rust will continue to infiltrate carbs.
Hello and welcome! I, too, live in CNY (Cortland). When you get your bike up and rolling, message me and maybe we can ride at some point.
Thanks Squirrelman I didnt look to close to the tank from a quick glance it looked coated i will look in there a bit further. And thanks Superpsu I have been to Cortland before I actually lived in lock and groten for a while, but wont be able to ride till next year by time probation gives me permission to get my licence back it will be pretty much time for bikes to be put up.
Ahhh, now I understand the sketchy location thing. Some of those PO folks make Putin seem the tolerant type. :bull_head: I am in Albany but travel to CNY (Utica - also about 45 from Syracuse) often to visit family and have "a fair amount" of experience with VF interceptors having brought a few back from near death. Glad to answer questions and also assist in person if the travel timing works out. Good luck with this project
Thanks motorhead1977 hoping to haved the engine done by the weekend provided I dont find anything else when i het the heads off. I started the back but decided to wait untill I have a full day instead of just a few hours hear and there. So far so good with the po though seldo get random visits and she wont even come in the house. Although if she was going to look online for info on me she wouldnt have to go further than fase book lol got some pics of it when I got it and in primer on there, not to mention always talking about it on there. But I will ask questions when I need to just starting to get into it as I finally got the engine off last night, could have had it off but opted to go fishing lol.
