Hi there guys. My names Phil and I live in the UK. Been riding for around 10 years. Previously owned a yamaha r6 and a yamaha fz400. Now I am the proud owner of a 1988 RC24. Got it very cheaply as a non runner. Always had some form of project in the workshop and couldn't resist this bike. Hi Phil Welcome to the MadHouse:welcome: It sounds like that 750 will make an interesting project. Usually the folks on here really like to see photos of your VFR before they believe it exists, but I see over in the 1st Gen forum, that you have already posted up a picture of the carburettor - so I guess you sort of get away with that for now. I know a few people who have taken on major rebuilds and later regretted not having taken enough (any) decent photos of the bike as they first got it. If the project is successful they can make for an interesting before/after comparison, sadly its easy to forget to take photos until they are well into the tear-down and the bike is a heap of bits. Its also worth spending time to get familiar with where stuff is located on the forum. Scroll down the home page and browse through relevant sub-forums for information on your bike and potential issues/solutions especially things electrical. The Specifications sub-forum mostly contains links to resources which have been spotted elsewhere and might be of use. Inevitably some external links get out of date, so its never completely right, but if you do find something which you think is of interest to others, then don't be afraid to add it to the relevant sub-forum. When you get a chance, its also a good idea to update your forum profile (my profile link at the very top of the page) to include the specs of your VFR and a rough location city/town is fine. That way if you need help you may find someone nearby is willing to swing by and offer a hand especially if you have a well stocked beer fridge. Meantime take care and let the questions begin. SkiMad

Shes getting there haha. Ive also recovered the seat with black leather instead of the red. Looks far better now. I do have the full fairing for her but it is in a very poor state. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have building her.
Rear light arrived yesterday. Just taped in place to see how it looked. Need to make a new underseat tray to attach it too. Really pleased with how it looks.
Bit of a dilemma at the moment with the exhausts. I may have to cut them down by at least half. Ive found that the current length has made the link pipes to be way too close to the foot pegs. If I where to ride with my toes on the pegs the back of my foot would be touching the pipe. On the plus side of doing this its going to make it sound pretty fruity haha. Cheers
It sounds like you may need to find someone willing to fabricate a few sections of custom pipework and mounting brackets to get those pipes running parallel to the seat underside which is roughly where the stock ones locate. If you hit the web there are several UK based firms who can do that sort of work like this lot down in Nottingham - http://www.ojzengineering.co.uk/ who should be able to fabricate something suitable. It would be a shame to take a saw to those pipes! SkiMad
Ive contacted a company in North Lincolnshire who are able to sort the pipes for me. I really want to try and keep the cans where they are now on the bike. Much prefer the look of it. Because I've modified the subframe I've also removed the rear pegs so I won't be able to use the standard exhaust hangers. Need to make my mind up haha.
Put the carbs back together after a good clean. I have a video of her running but don't know how to attach it. It starts up first press now. Glad I decided to sort the carbs out. Just made a template for the under seat tray. Need to take it to work now and fabricate it from the piece of aluminium I have. Will be sprayed up either gloss black or matt black. Havent decided yet. This will give me a good solid fixing place for the rear light and number plate.
Tank has just been shot blasted and is now ready for painting. Found a couple of filler spots under the old paint but shouldn't be an issue.
Finally getting there now. Still need to sort the exhausts out. Might put the standard cans on for now. Brakes need doing also.

Well, haven't been on in a while but the bike is nearly done. Finally got the exhausts fitted. Love the sound of it now. Got it running nice aswell. Next job is to get some flat street bars fitted. Think that will finish it off. I'm not a fan of clip ons on a naked bike haha. Got a small coolant leak as you can see in the photo. Its just one of the hose clamps won't tighten up. Other than that really pleased with how its turned out. Enjoy
