    Hey Guys and Gals,

Located am 86 VFR 750 for sale... seller states it is a factory race bike "set up" by HRC - one year production bike, was bought at a discount thru the race program and not a consumer purchase , says it has a "4500 motor upgrade" now has a CBR f2 wheel conversion, and yoshimura 4 into 1 exhaust.

Anyone have any idea what a "4500 motor upgrade" is? Would this type of bike have different internals (read: impossible to repair if it breaks) or other parts that would be hard to find?

Guy is asking a lot of dough for the bike (over 6K). Pics show its in good shape.

    Opinions?

If it was a true HRC it would have a titanium exhaust. This must be some kind of cobbled together racer or the exhaust could have been trashed in a crash.

He needs to show you some paperwork to show it's special.....or he's bs-ing.
If the bike WAS ever raced, you don't want it ! Too many mods that may make it unsuitable for street use+ high wear on gearbox, engine.

Looking for another bike? My advice is go for a gen 4.

He did indeed mentiona titanium exhaust... but said it was scrapped in favour of the Yosh for better throttle response and "great back pressure". Said the bike also came with numbered side covers and a rear solo seat that they had to give back when it was bought from the race program.

I asked about documentation, but he didn't respond to that part. I have his number now and will give him a call to save time going back and forth.

He says it has only 14,000 miles... looks good in the photos. I'm a little suspicious of the race aspect - must have been very lightly raced if that's the original miles (and plastics) still on this old girl - but i suppose its possible.

I'll try and upload a pic....

Wearing HRC stickers doesn't raise it above an average VFR. Honda wouldn't have what appear to be stock forks on a race-prepped bike. The guy's all BS or just repeating BS that was told to him.

If it's stock, not worth more than $3000-$3200. ++ for low miles and clean, imo. Get a gen4 for that or less.

I wonder if the F2 conversion explains the lack of racing forks - are you guys replacing whole front ends for the F2 conversions?

Funny how he wants a race bike price for a bike that doesn't seem to have many race parts left on it. No ideas on the "4500 motor upgrade" either. If the motor has a bunch of different internals it might be impossible to repair or find parts for.

I agree with the valuations, though - I have a Canadian 86 VFR750 and that's about what I paid for it last year.

There should be a Many more race parts on it than is shown. Also the engine would come with a NC9 code I believe. Check the carbs they should be magnesium and be non CV type. The carbs alone would be worth more than what he's asking.
The cams would also ride on bearings and the cam gears would be special lighter types with different teeth than stock. Guys full of crap. It also has all of the standard passenger gear....which would have been stripped. It would have a larger radiator and oil cooler too. Really the race bikes only just look like a street version.

Here are some real race parts I found on the web for 2nd gen VFR's, they have NW6 code, Gen 1 has the NC9 code I think.
