I'm looking for a good cheap source for OEM VFR800 parts (2006 and 2008 preferably). Done the usual searches and not found much I liked... I'm really in need of a right crankcase cover for my friends bike but I'm not trying to drop $250 on it. Sources anyone?

I replaced my clutch side cover on my 07 a little over a year ago, best price that I found was from "motorcycle goodies.com" I think it was around $190 & maybe $20 shipping. Going by memory though and I'm old, so check it out.

Just did a quick look up of the clutch cover (part number 11330-MW4-020)...

    MSRP: $284.47
    ronayers.com: $201.83
    partzilla.com: $187.75
    motorcyclegoodies.com: $196.36
    davidsilverspares: $288.14 (more than MSRP!)

As usual, partzilla has the (pricing) edge. When I started buying parts online 11 years ago, RonAyers was always the cheapest--it's great to see plenty of competition driving prices down.

There are some sources in japan if you can read japanese, google has a hard time translating the pages. Short of that, try motorcycleparts.com I have always found their prices to be reasonable.

Look for places that offer free overall shipping or free shipping over a certain peso amount.

Both FedEx and UPS got it that they could offer the vendors a kickback on shipping to line their pockets.

I bought a couple of shims that adapt those overpriced Honda headlight bulbs with standard bulbs. (forty pesos vs ten pesos) The shims are stainless steel and about the size of a 50 centavo piece. They (UPS) wanted seven pesos+ to ship them. USPS was the price of a first class stamp and an envelope.

Yep it ain't perfect. The dudes that get screwed are the Canadians who can't read Japanese and the Japanese who think the Loony is worth a peso.

So to replace that cover, I'm gonna need just one new gasket? Can I swap out and reuse the old fasteners?

Yes that's correct as long as none of the bolt heads were ground or sheared off during the crash.

Do you know if the new cover comes with the window and everything already installed? Does it have to have anything installed before it gets installed on the bike?

The window is in it already but I think there might have been a small second gasket thing(technical) out of rubber that went around a sensor wire or something. Sorry to lazy right now to look at the fiche, I very well might be wrong too:topsy_turvy: Nice to see the price comparisons too.

Yes it comes ready to install, as long as the bolts arent damaged, all you would need is the cover and the paper gasket.

You MIGHT want to invest a couple bucks on the o rings (ive reused them before but it cant hurt to replaced) You do have to reuse that circle access hole though.

Wish I hadn't seen this thread, or that I had seen it earlier. Been using RA for years and a comparison of recently ordered parts show that I paid almost double the partzilla prices! :-(

I recently replaced the clutch cover on my 06 VFR and got great prices for it and other parts from Kieth at Mason City Honda (masoncityhonda@gmail.com). The cover was $150.00. You will want the gasket too. Make sure you can get off the pulse generator from the old cover, somtimes the bolt sieze. Good idea to have a torque wrench too, the cover bolts are only 9lbs of torque.

Amazon has a very powerful search capability. No clutch covers but many other parts, pieces and farkles for Hondas. Try Google too and even Bing if you can stand the ads and the latest news about Kim Kardashians upcoming marriage to Rosie O'Donnel.
