After selling (and regretting it) my 96 VFR I am finally back on what I should have stayed on

I purchased a 96 VFR in 1998 and sold it a couple years later in favor of a CBR900RR. While I love my 900, I always missed the comfort, practicality and sound of the VFR. I moved my way up the CBR line over the years and settled on a wonderful CBR929. After owning that bike for many years it started dawning on me that the riding position was starting to make me uncomfortable after about 45 minutes of riding. I found a buyer for the 929 and then promptly found a GORGEOUS 2006 VFR 200 miles away for sale. I talked my wife into riding down there with me to look at the bike. After a quick look it was very clear the previous owner had taken incredible care of the bike. It was a no brainer to pick the bike up. I have put about 800 miles on it since purchase and cannot believe what a wonderful and comfortable bike it is.

Here is a pic of me giving my middle son some pre-ride directions. This was his first time on a motorcycle and now it is "his favorite way" to travel.

:welcome:Hi and welcome back to the VFRWorld!

After tipping the screen on its side I agree it looks like your VFR was someone's pride and joy and very well looked after. The bike looks stunning! You will find plenty of ideas for upgrades and modifications lurking in the 6th Gen section of the forum.

Take care and keep it shiny side up!

Ah yes, formatting fail on my part with the pic =(

I really think the only thing left to change or add to it is an exhaust. It came with a Sgt. Seat, heated grips, heated leads for two pieces of gear, heli bars, a top box and rack and the side bags. It also had a Givi touring screen that I swapped out to a Puig DB and I tossed the reflective tape on the wheels. The only thing I feel like I need to add is the rear cowl. I could not be happier with the bike!

Wow! That is a great accessories list, which probably added a fair few bucks to the original price. :smileyfb:

If you don't need that touring screen - just list it in the Classifieds on here and you may find quite a few takers!

Meantime if you are planning to head out on any really long runs, then you may find that adding a Vista universal throttle lock - is a cheap and worthwhile accessory which really helps reduce throttle wrist pain. On my VFR I used this idea http://www.rattlebars.com/mtz/invisible.html which makes for a very discrete install.

    Cheers! :tea:

I thought I got it for an incredibly fair price! Considering the condition it was in and the accessories included I didn't have to add any cash over and above what I sold my 929 for.

Totally forgot, the bike has Throttlemeister bar ends on it too. I had those on my 929 and they are perhaps one of the best things I have ever purchased for a motorcycle.

I am actually thinking of selling the luggage too, but am torn. I will certainly look into the classified section.

    Thanks!

I wouldn't sell the luggae. Just put them away. They are part of the package and you will someday regret selling them. I regretted not getting them when I bought mine new. Have since bought a used set and am happier than a pig in shit.

    Welcome back to the World.

After tinkering with the side bags and getting a feel for just how easy they are to put on and take off (and a little advice from this thread right here) I have decided to keep the bags. I didn't realized you can toss them off and on so quickly.

Rode the bike into work today despite the chance for rain. I just LOVE the V4! Sounds so good and is just such a well rounded engine. Also I think the 6th gen is one of the best looking motorcycles ever made. Again, could not be happier with the bike.

Can't disagree... when I was looking for a bike a few years ago, the VFR is the one that instantly caught my eye; I waited until the right colour came along and went for it. I'm now on my 2nd VFR and when I only moved onto the second as it was newer (08) and had ABS... raining here today, else I'd ride it (and I'm working atm ... )
