New Danish member...

Hi there.

I´m 54 years of age and got my first bike, a Yamaha RD 200 back in 1979 and after several different bikes over the years and the usual "devoted to my family,bringing up kids" break for 13 years, I bought a rare Cagiva Gran Canyon 900 i.e. 3 years ago. - This was a very entertaining bike WHEN it ran, but the Italian electrical gremlins made me tired in the long run, - and 2 weeks ago I then sold it and got myself my dreambike: a very well-kept VFR 800 fi 98`with only 35000 km on the clock! After my first 1000 km I could not be happier! The combination of sport and touring is fantastic, - and what a balance on the road! - And even after the rough and strong Ducati 900 engine of my former Cagiva I`m impressed with the V4, - it has a perfect mix of 4-cylinder smoothness and V-engine roughness that really impresses me!
By the way for all of you non-Danes out there: In Denmark you have a crazy tax of 180% on cars and bikes, - so this probably makes my VFR one of the most expensive 98`s around with a price of approx.8500 Euros, - and that`a bargain in DK! - A new 2014 VFR ( with 5.gen. VFR design once again I think...) costs a whopping 29000 Euros !!! So now you may understand why I appreciate my old VFR even more...
I`m pleased to have joined the community, - and am looking forward to advice, tips and hints regarding this wonderful bike..

Including pictures of your VFR with your first post - is definitely a great start.:thumbsup: Also congratulations on choosing a red VFR - which is widely recognised as the fastest colour otstir:!

I take it with a 180% tax rate on vehicles, at least dentistry pays well.

That bike looks like it has been really well cared for. They are a bit top heavy, and at very low speeds or when parking, they can however be a bit of a handful for shorter/lighter riders and adopt horizontal parking mode. You may want to consider fitting some R&G frame sliders - which can help save your pride, your wallet and possibly your leg.

As for electrical gremlins - sadly you may find your bike swap, is a case of - out of the frying pan and into the fire - as the VFR charging system is not brilliant. I'm skimad too... - Lived in Liechtenstein from 1990 - 1996 and was addicted to the snow forever after this! Have gone skiing with my now 19 - year old son in the eastern Swiss Alps for several years...

Yes skiing and motorbiking are pretty addictive. That's why, when I got the chance I moved from London to Chatel in the Alps where we enjoy 4 months of skiing, 4 months of riding and 2 months of rain.


Inevitably after a great day out on the bike yesterday its raining again today (snowing higher up), so it's chores and time on the computer.
