Wow that's a WAY open question. Be prepared for responses. I have to be prepared just to post.
Many think that 7 / 7.5 wt oil is about the best for VFR with after market springs. There used to be a key that showed the real viscosity of different brand oil. Last couple of times I went there the site was down. Standard belray 10w is a good option for stock setup. The race or next level up belray 10w is a little lighter. Standard belray 7w is what I use but I have after market springs. There is also valveing etc. but I'm assuming OEM valve and springs. Anyway stick with OEM seals. Buy a seal driver and make sure to clean out the fork tubes. I used CRC contact cleaner because it leaves behind no residue. Nothing to contaminate fluid.

How much fork oil goes in each fork leg? Where do you measure the level? Motrex Racing 10w looks close to stock-a bit lighter-mineral oil-swiss.:saturn::grey:

You have a 6th gen, with the fork compressed add 18oz of oil and then pump the fork slowly to release the trapped air and to fill the valve body. When oil comes out the tell tail hole in the rod then compress the fork and let it relax. Then measure 100mm (double check this in fsm) from the top down to the oil. Add/remove until you are at this mark. Do same for other fork and make sure you are as close to exact as possible.

As for oil, I just did mine again, honda pro ss7. Its a 10w and is red dyed to be noticeable from the regular ss7 which is a clear yellow, depending on the light. The shop I got mine from didnt have any oem stuff in stock but did suggest the belray as an equivalent.

So far I like the honda pro ss7, front end feels way better, I have it set really soft right now and its still confident in slow tight corners. But like every other oil thread, its about preferences and bs. Once you get past both of those then youll do ok.

And before anyone else says it: slick 50, good for everything including coffee additive.

Have found Motrex Racing 7.5w works best for me.

Tried their 10w once but didn't like it as it made the forks feel less subtle through ripply back roads, perhaps if only riding on smooth roads or track days. I tried a different brands 7.5 once but decided to go back to the Motrex Racing as the forks feel smoother to me.

IMGP0314.jpg IMGP0313.jpg IMGP0312.jpg IMGP0308.jpg IMGP0307.jpg I bought 2 qts of Belray HP 7-it looks like a match for motrex racing 7.5, both mineral oil.Bel ray is cheaper. That should cover the fork oil change-shop kids help me on that one. I ride 100+ miles today going though the back roads of maione to a weird eye doctor. I will hit some Light rain-screw it , I have my custom touring ZG touring on-rain will simple go over me now. And new M5 metzler M5 tires, new brake fluid too and clutch- prestone dot 4.

I have 10 wt. Belray in the forks of my 4th gen. It made a substantial difference to the feel of the front end, but then again the fork oil appeared to be the original, and never changed. 7.5/ or 10 wt. Can't see if it makes that much difference in a 4th gen. in particular. In a full out sport bike it's a lot more critical as to what weight you use.
