I'm looking at a 2002 with 29,000 miles on it. Is there anything I should look for as potential problems? With 2002 being the first year of the 6th Gen should I look for something newer? I use to have a 1999 VFR and loved it.

A valve clearance check and to see if the recall wire harness was done is a good start. Otherwise they are pretty solid machines.

He wants $3500 for it. The 2006 and above are better?

The 06 to 09 got better wiring harness and the Vtec transition at 6400 RPM in stead of 6800 RPM
$3500 a bit high IMO Is the bike come with any mod?

It does have new tires (1500 miles on them) and brand new battery, chain and sprockets put on last month.

LOL, after I joined I ended up selling my 99 VFR and went to a DL1000 then several others. Now back looking at a VFR again.

Yes, I know all of you by name and where you live. Took me 5 years but I did it.

Still think $3500 is too much? This guy was asking $4000 and I told him he was way out of line.

Market value is probably closer to $3k. For $3500, it should have more useful mods or mileage around 10-15k. Any road rash? ABS or non-ABS version? No need to feel like you have to jump on this, there are plenty of VFRs out there.

You might also want to find out what maintenance is pending: last brake/clutch fluid change, oil/filter change, coolant change. Find out if the motorcycle has had any electrical issues. Also will want to make sure thermostat is working.

Guys, thanks so much for all the info! I'm going to hold off on this one and keep looking. Maybe in a week or two he'll be ready to come down more or I'll run across a better deal.

I just bought a 2007 vfr with 11,500 miles on it for $3,600. The left side needs painted from where the previous owner dropped it, other than that it's in excellent shape. He also threw in 2 helmets, 2 pairs of gloves, tank bag and aftermarket saddlebags(soft). So I think $3500 is a bit high IMO.

High? Thats cheap to me. Most decent higher mile 02 out here was $4000-4500, i dragged my ass to Vegas to get mine way under that but it needed some little work in which i dont mind doing. Hell i was looking for a clean 5th gen again but most were asking more then a 6th gen, and the $3500-4000 5th gens had like 60k miles and werent in the best of shape.
