Hi all, i originally had a brand new 96 model vfr when i still lived in the uk, it was a dark metallic blue which i believe was a euro only colour, i made the mistake of trading it for a new zx7r kawasaki and regretted it after the ride home!, i had several sportbikes after that but i always seemed to compare them to my vfr, and nothing ever seemed to match that gear whine! i moved to canada in 05 only to find that the licensing office carries over the car license but not the bike, it took me until 12 months ago to finally get round to getting a bike license, i got a cheap bike to get my first year insurance done and the lure of the gear whine took over and in october last year (just before the snow!!!) i bought a mint red 98 model with 50,000km on it, with givi luggage, alarm, hindle pipe etc, have been using it daily now for my 110km round trip and boy, does it bring back memories! pops a lot when backing off the gas so it seems like the pair mod is in the near future,

Same boat as you! I took 15 years off of riding (had a 1985 VF750F Interceptor) and I "blame" my wife for getting back into it...

Last May we were discussing, of all mundane things, what type of flooring to have for a new shed we were going to have installed.

"Well," she said "we should really put in a concrete floor."

    "Why?" sez I.

"Because we'll need something really sturdy for your bike."

"Uh, honey, our bicycles don't weight that much to require a concrete pad."

"I know, but I figure that at some point you'll get back into motorcycle riding and we plan on staying here for a long time."

Within 1 day I am on Ontario Kijiji and within 10 days...

I too just came off a long hiatus. 12 years.
I did some research last summer and it seemd that the Ducati and the V Strom were the current favorites around northern California so I test drove both. I was highly disappointed and was beginning to question my decision to get back into riding. I then tried a 2005 concours. Blah! Totally uninspiring.
I was ready to give up my idea of riding again until I saw a 1984 Honda Sabre for $1200. Didn't know anything about the sabre other than it was the most powerful bike in its day. But I figured at $1200 I could sell it and only be out a few bucks if I didn't like it.
It took about 2 blocks for me to know that the v-4 was the bike for me. It was love at first ride.

I wanted something a bit more modern and reliable so of course I started looking for a vfr. Im totally amazed by my 2000. She's my first bon a fide crotch rocket.
Ill keep my Sabre forever and hand it down to my grand kids. And I'll ride my vfr until I can't reach for the handle bars anymore.
