    Hi,

I'm trying to remove the left lower fairing to change the oil. I have the owner's manual and followed the steps, but the fairing seems to be stuck where it joins with the front fairing. I was able to disconnect the lower fairing from the front fairing on the side of the fairing, but something seems to be holding it from the top of the fairing.

Can someone help me? What am I missing? Maybe a picture of the top of the fairing removed would help me.

    Thanks,

    Phelippe

I forgot to mention that I have a 2007 VFR.

Here is a picture of the problem:

First off..you have to remove all the plastic push clips that hold the inner plastic and the chin piece (four bolts) will come out. Second..put everything back together...I can replace the oil filter without removing any body work. That inner chin piece is pretty thick so with one hand pull the top part out and slide your hand or filter attachment in to get the filter...
My first oil change when I bought my bike was at the local honda dealer...and thats exactley where I learned this after watching the mechanic......hope this helps buddy

Ok I managed to change the oil filter without removing the lower fairing. I had already removed the inner fairing, so I didn't have any problem with that.

But after I tighten my new oil filter with a torque wrench, the oil filter wrench is stuck on the oil filter. Any easy way to get it off? There isn't much space to work in there.

    Thanks again.

Always hand tighten with a coat of oil on the o ring...never torque filter or drain plug.

I simply followed the manual, and I prefer to use a torque wrench to make sure it is tight enough. I did manage to get it off by taping on it with a wrench from under the bike.

    Thanks again for your help.

I hand-tight mine. Makes it easier to take off with one hand when I need to change it.

Wait what? You hand tighten your drain plug? Im sure that will still require a good snug torque down with a wrench not hand tight like the oil filter.

Sorry sick...I hand tighten filter and just tighten the drain plug with a rachet snug.....no torque wrench (or any use of torque sledge hammers)

Its probably to late but if you switch your wrench to loosen lightly push on it as if your loosening your filter or bolt where ever you get it stuck and you will feel it let go, then it should slide right off
