So I'm looking at possibly doing some custom work on my 06 vfr800 for the exhaust, because honestly, I haven't seen anything I like in the current aftermarket. I was thinking about simply removing the stock mufflers and putting a straight pipe up there. I've seen several of these setups online but they sound stupid loud. Not sure if I'd like it but damn it looks good. Maybe I could install a silencer into the exhaust? What are your thoughts on how I could do this?

Here's a pic of another VFR that's done like I want it: image.jpg

Not really into leaving the stock cans there if they are gutted. I'd rather take them off in one piece so I can hopefully reinstall them if I get tired of the stupid loud exhaust...

    Hi.
Did you find a pipe you were looking for? I think I'm looking for the same pipe as you. I want the straight through/ cut off look, but I want a baffle to keep the boys in blue off my back. Love the pipes on the silver bike you posted.

Haven't been able to find anything yet. Honestly haven't looked in awhile though. Lost interest because I've had some mechanical problems with the bike and haven't been riding it.

Here's the truth of someone running a straight pipe.

well, as straight as cans with absolutely zero packing in them, because I drilled out the rivets and removed it all myself.

The sound is OUTSTANDINGLY GOOD. it's not As loud as you might think. it's very deep at idle, and it howls when you're flogging it, but out on the highway, because of the cat still in place, it really doesn't bother me at all. I can't hear it over the wind above 60.

open header is pretty nasty sounding, but if you introduce enough pipe up the back, ect, it gets just quiet enough that GSXR's with the stupid exhaust tip over their headers are quite a bit louder. so I don't really get dirty looks. I get a lot of grins though. ;)

Are you using the standard muffler cases without insides? Has that affected performance?
