Just bought my first VFR

    There's no way that melting came from the exhaust. Look at the picture again...it isn't anywhere near the can, plus they just don't get that hot.

    Welcome. Did the PO tell you how it melted? Is the tail piece damaged as well? Wierd place to be melted like that. Maybe wife took a blow torch to it before she made him sell it.

    If one of the brake light switches gave up, the bulbs may have done that. My SR250 was like that when I bought it from the brake lights being on all the time.

    All these welcomes and suggestions and "chasingchaos" has not been back. Hope nothing bad happened to him, like the bike melting completely down, with him on it!

    He had something strapped to the back seat and it flopped over and draped over the exhaust for a few hours while riding and caused the exhaust to be trapped behind it and caused the tail light to melt.

    It was a gel seat pad that came partially free.

    Been busy and haven't gotten used to checking this forum :). I've put about 700 miles on her so far and enjoying it. Reminds me a lot of my Ducati ST2 I used to have.
