I am going to keep the backrest with the seat unless the seat sells first and they don't want the backrest.

Continental USA only. Sorry guys but I don't want to deal with overseas shipping issues (lost or damaged and high prices of shipping)

Not available, I think Micron is out of business, only selling leftover stock. I had that same pipe for awhile, wish I still had it.

Good to know. I've been looking around for a "new" bike but there is nothing I like as much as my 5th gen viffer.

I've decided to do a slew of upgrades and make it a new bike.
New mods going on next week include new front springs, new tapered bearings in the steering stem, and helibars.

I feel like I have a new bike on order I am so excited!
So glad to have a great local mechanic to do all the work for me and give me peace of mind while I get other stuff done around the house like finish tiling the bathroom for the wife ;) Happy wife = happy life.

Mine is coming up on 100K so I've been doing a lot too.

And with a wife that looks like that, I'd want to keep her happy too, lucky man.

Thank you, I agree! So a few high milage questions. Did you ever have to shim the valves? What maintenance items do you recommend that may be out of the normal? When did you change the spark plugs?

So far I have replaced brake pads, adjusted chain, regular oil changes, air filter cleans (K&N), new tires and soon to replace steering stem bearings and add heavier front fork springs.

On a side note: Last night was my first time hitting the rev limiter on the beast. I usually shift way before redlining it but I wasn't even paying attention to the rpm guage lol. Good to know it has a rev limiter ;)

I had 2 shims changed at 48K, haven't checked it since. 2nd gear is going out on mine so I have a newer low mileage motor prepping for replacement. The low milage motor needed 11 shims to bring it back to spec.

Did the plugs twice in 92K. Probably did the steering stem bearings 3 times. I have a RC51 front end and the seals seem to go about every 15K. Just noticed one is starting to leak again.

Just keep an eye on the electrical system, a battery tender and beefing up the r/r wires has been a help so far.

TWICE in 92k??!! You are very lucky!! I did my first set at 10k and it was still running good...second set at 12k because it started missing on one cylinder.
Just an FYI, the recommended interval is only 8k on 5th gens.....

Oh, it's due. But with a new motor ready to go in with new clutch, shims and plugs I'm letting it ride. They were the iridium plugs, aren't they supposed to go 50K?

8k? Honda must not have much faith in their plugs. I changed mine at 24k or so, and I'm pretty sure they were the OEM ones that came with the bike. Did it more as a matter of regular maintenance than any problem with the bike, it was running fine and continues to do so at 36k. I'll probably check the valves when it hits 50k, but I really don't want to tear into that can of mechanical worms unless I absolutely have to.
