By itself, without appropriate fuel tuning, and maybe intake work, it would almost certainly hurt performance. May not hurt it enough that you'd notice it in the seat of your pants when the exhaust sound is trying to convince you you're going faster than you really are.

With a power commander and a dyno tune, you may match or possibly beat stock performance. It just depends on what you want from the performance; peak horsepower, low end torque, or a balance of both.

About a month ago I pulled the packing and baffle out of my old exhaust and ran the empty can. Yeah it sounds cool, but it gets annoying. You bring about the Harley douche factor as you pollute with noise. Plus there's the added chance you'll attract the attention of the popo. After 2 days I had enough and put the stuff back in the muffler. If you need to be heard I would suggest installing a stebel nautilus or wolo bad boy. Will get drivers' attention when required.

Go with a staintune or something and find a happy medium between stock and Nascar.

You talking about wolo horn? Yea I have one on my VMAX mainly because I couldn't hear stock horn over the exhaust.

I like the stock car sound and a v4 is no where near the sound that a Harley makes.. Harleys sound like engines farting lol. I live in the country and rarely ride in the city maybe twice in my life. Loud exhaust has saved me more than once not with cars but with deer. They dont like the loud noises. But I do like them :D. I am going for loud i just was curious about good for engine or not. I know it will rob some power but if I want power I will ride my max. The clean look of these and the sound is what I like.. it may be a little to loud but the clean look is superb. I have yet to find an exhaust with such a clean look. And im not looking to drop 800$ on exhaust for a bike im just riding to and from work..

Well, to answer your question I strongly doubt it would do any damage to the engine just removing the mufflers. As long as you don't change the header out with a CAT delete. The MAP and O2 sensor should be able to compensate enough to keep you from running too lean. Now if you went cat delete I would really start to worry and would think you would need a remap.

    Lol
Every single slip on made for these bikes is straight through with no back pressure. I don't know why you guys are getting all worked up like this is any different.

You should have just told us what answer it was you were looking for and we would have gone ahead and told you what you want to hear.

I'm sure you'll love it. But get a power commander.

Well my exhaust is gutted and occasionally I even run nothing past the headers. It's fun being crazy loud sometimes but I also like being able to hear my own thoughts and music so I go back and forth. I really don't consider a gutted exhaust that loud anymore and even straight pipes aren't any louder than my friend's R1 with two brothers and an ecu map for it. To each his own.

Oh I should mention when I run with nothing after the Cat I also use O2 sensor deletes because the bike actually runs crazy rich, the O2 sensors seem to be exposed to atmospheric O2 I think. When on O2 deletes the bike runs smooth and strong and the loss of 15lbs from the mufflers is noticeable.

That is how I run. I have a slashed exhaust tip with baffle to cut noise to a reasonable level while maintaining the loss in 15lbs. The O2 delete worked wonderfully.

I run open cans on my 2007 and its not bad . But the cat helps keep it down . Performance wise all I have done is the exhaust open cans and K&N filter and my buddy has a 1999 vfr with exhaust , K&N and the power commander He can not pull from me at all . We both think when I get the power commander I will pull from him . but when I was all stock he would pull from me like crazy . I think freeing up the exhaust helped a lot . Also I think the bike runs cooler. temp it better .

What kind of baffle are you running in the slash cut? How much was it? And did it cut down noise tk reasonable but still loud sounds?

I think it was a cheap slip in baffle (2" diameter, 4" long)

I hated the sound and it killed performance so I trimmed an inch off the length and drilled a few extra holes. Now it is about as quiet as I can get it without drastically hurting performance. The biggest downside (and the reason I will be cutting out the cat and replacing it with a chambered high flow muffler can similar to a buell setup) is that the sound is not "refined" like the typical VFR sound. It is very rough and raspy sounding and Vtech just doesn't sing like it did with gutted cans. On a more positive note, I lost the can weight and with the baffle dialed in performance is almost identical to before.

***before anybody makes a shitty joke comparing the vfr to a buell, It would sound better if I said "under body muffler like the panigale"

I have a similar setup. I'm running a Supertrapp shortie hanging off the CAT. I can adjust the sound with little performance hit by changing # of baffle plates. Also lost ~13lbs. Sound level measured at 104db, ~a foot away at 45deg angle & 5K rpm. Now need to get around to painting the underside of the tail section flat black ...

    ACE

Oh yeah, need a short mid-pipe fabbed too ...

Stock exhaust is just under 2 inches.

    2"

And I just put on a Viper exhaust from ebay for 150 quid, and so far it looks and sounds great. Another viable option.
