I've recently fitted a GPS to the VFR - and with the speed camera locator it is v useful. Though it seems to think I am travellin slower than the fitted Honda speedo. At around 30mph all is fine, though to the 100mph mark when the bikes own speedo reads 100mph the GPS is tracking the speed as 90mph. I imagine the difference gets greater as the speed increases further. Has anyone elsecome across this - or are there any views as to which I should believe??? Thanks A
There is a built in discrepancy by the manufacturer. A speedo healer, www.speedohealer.com, should fix correct the difference.
Thanks Vinny When I had posted the question the site came up with an old item with exactly the same problem and the same resolution. I'm not that sure that I am bothered enough to fix it - it is another bit of electronics to fit into that cockpit area somewhere - a cheetah radar detector is probably a better investment!!
I just purchased a 2005 vfr which is fitted with a garmin street pilot gps. I see the same results but at ALL speeds... If the bike reads 66, I'm going 60.... If the bike reads 147, I'm going 133(with hard bags attached and loaded), according the gps. Damn gps, takes the fun out it a bit. The original owner of the bike told me to look for this and then also wondered if the mileage was also affected. I did a test on the southern part of 395 in California. The mileage on the bike and the gps were identical, but the speed was off... Two different reading methods I guess for speed and miles? It would be nice to have it corrected. It's pretty far off in my opinion. It would be okay if it were at high speeds only but it is the same at all speeds, off by nearly a 10% margin or so. I guess in the end, I don't really care, nor do I pay much attention to my speed and when a cop is on your tail, its good to go slower than you think you are anyway. Now, to break the 150 mark on the bike means I have to go how fast on it? oh boy, not sure if it will get there.
