Body position while cornering

This vid even tells the riders in it that the instructor is going to watch and give feedback. This is a good teaching tool and very well done. They show with pics and the speaker gives plenty of visual ques for the riders to learn from.

Glad ya liked it. I have always kept my feet to the inside of the peg, as close to the bike as possible. His instruction to keep the feet on the outside of pegs to allow the foot to rotate makes total sense, looking forward to putting his technique to use.

 

Just remember that his instruction is only part of what needs to be taught. Get a couple spotters to watch and possibly record you so you can see what your not doing right.

 

All this is good for newbies & a good reminder for us old farts. My only inputs would be that you can over think cornering. While much of what is shown will become 2nd nature overtime, to much thought can cost you valuable time & can bite even the most experienced rider on the arse.

I recommend them to everyone.

 

Good stuff for track days and racing but what has it to do with street riding and watching some dude hang off at 35mph. The guy in the vid needs to shed a few pounds too . Maybe a Jenny Craig vid or the book ,"The Horrors of Carbs and Life Without Gluten".

 

The whole foot thing is interesting. On a modern sport bike with boat loads of ground clearance his instructions make sense but if you are riding a 3rd gen VFR it just doesn't work because you won't have any boots left after three laps.. I say, adjust as necessary to ensure that nothing is dragging except your knee. Otherwise it was awesome.

 

people may go on and on about bp but tbh its what you are comfy with and that is the best bp.

 

I have always liked BP. Their stations have the cleanest loos.

I don't know if it was a track day with Ride Smart or the Wood brothers but the rotating foot deal works. The Woods take photos/video for Penguin school too. When track instructors have an almost real time photo or video of you they can show you what your doing and how to correct or approach a skill set. Very useful.

 

Even at slow speeds you can change body position in smaller increments to keep a larger contact patch. Very helpful on twisty street riding, especially on unfamiliar roads and roads with changing conditions. Nothing like being in the dry to take a sharp turn and its wet with leaves stuck to it. I want all the traction I can get at all times.

 

True ,and I have the chevrons to prove it.

 

No shit? We can reverse that example and go from wet and sliding to dry as a popcorn fart and highside into eternity.

Keep in mind that even on this BB where many of us ride what might be considered "gentlemens" bikes, you are far from the most experienced or fastest or best equipped person to teach using examples and scenarios of your own device. Many here have already been there, done that and are down to the last Tshirt in the box.

 

Nick Ienatsch has some more detail on the foot position in his video library on fastersafer.com. Well worth the look (and the cost, lots of good videos and articles there). Much closer look at how far off the peg, your degree of rotation outward, and how to keep your ankle rigid and toes extended so your ankle isn't a wet noodle when you weight it.
