    Poor maintenance and shoddy workmanship

My friend bought a xjr 1200 kr rep on friday, it was an eBay purchase that was delivered to his door.
Well tbh on the pics and from afar it looked fantastic (not my cup of tea tbh) my friend is 20yrs old then me and has been biking for 30 odd yrs
he is very anal about his bikes, well when it turned up he was in pieces on the phone to me...... anyway i went down and had a look and it was terrible rust allover shoddy chain and sprocket the exhaust was blowing form 4 different points the tank had faded and was flaking, the forks were hand painted in black hammerite the clutch and brake mastercyclinders were butchered with wrong sized and different "wood screws" and had like putty around the outside (most likely a leak) the the overall condition was f...king terrible, it wouldn't even tick over, we had the thing into 100 pieces by saturday tea time, lets see how things go with getting it ship shape.

My point in this spout is just to say "if you can't do a job correctly then let a pro do it"

I would check that ebay posting for miss representation. Ebay protects you from some fraud. At least you can let others know not to deal with that guy.

now on to the wreck. Good luck.

I've said this to him fella, and he's just like "fuck it BUT i will never buy without looking again" its foolish really.
his situation with his wife and her running up a huge credit card bill meant he had to use his saving plus sell his 2012 cb1300 and 86 fzr1000 (both were mint condition) to pay it off, thus he had just enough to scrape this pile of turd up.

he just doesn't like being without 2wheels! just another bike mad man :)

Mistake #1, buying a vehicle sight unseen! Mistake #2, letting the seller get away with it.

That aside, you're spot on, if you cannot do the job right, get someone who can! Good luck to your friend, I'm sure once it's done he'll have bragging rights about his accomplishment. If you end up helping him, take some before and after photos and share them with the class.

    Cheers

Funny you should say "help him" on saturday it was in pieces and he ordered a few parts at opening time this am, the only trouble is i won't be able to help him for 3 weeks, so he will have to wait! he have poor dexterity in his hands from yrs of being a coal miner and riding. he needs the help and i am more then happy to give it. it is extremely satisfying to pull the shit bits of clean it up and put on the shinny stuff. yippee

at least with this XJR once its fixed it will only need periodic maintenance, not wrenched on repeatedly.

All sales of vehicles and real estate on eBay are non binding. You cannot sue on either side if the buyer or seller declines to continue. He already paid and he could have disputed it. Sounds like a good guy though! Live and learn!

I sold my car well below value when I foolishly took the reserve off. Guess I watched one too many car auction shows! I went ahead with sale because a deal is a deal... And sometimes you aren't the winner!
