Do you know anything about the bike's history? The mileage is kinda high but price seems fair assuming that it is not beat up too badly. I personally wouldn't use a bike that old that for long distance touring but it might be ok for shorter trips. Major parts will be nearly impossible to find for that thing.

i ride a vfr700f2 1986 back in the states and it is no problem for long of short rides but it was very well cared for. this one is a unknown as far as prier maintenance is concerned but it would mainlybe for short trips to work and back 14km max per day and later maybe some longer rides in the blackforest there are to good of roads to pass up the opportunity to ride them!!

At that price I'd be willing to bet that bike hasn't been loved nearly as much as your own bike back in the states. I also assume you would be trying to re-sell the bike when you are ready to return to the states? If so it might be difficult to find a buyer in a short period of time without practically giving it away. Maybe you could work something out with the owner where you could buy it from him now and if you can't sell it before you leave he'd buy it back from you at a nice discount. This way he gets a little money in his pocket and you don't have to get stuck with the bike. The good thing is that it's fairly cheap and you'd probably get your money's worth out of it even if you are only able to ride it 3 or 4 good weekends. If it runs and does't leak I say go for it and take advantage of the opportunity you have.

I owned one back in the day and loved it but that was when you could find a part for one to, I say pass just on replacement parts unless it is in perfect condition.

If you get the bike cheap (and it seems you have) my advice is to go touring but carry a bus pass with you or at least enough coin to get you back home. You can just walk away from it, stick the title between the seat and tank signed "to whom it may concern" on the back.

Ya just gotta love that over spray on the engine and elsewhere.

We had a customer that painted his Triumph red white and blue. He got paint on the seat, frame, wheels, tires, you name it he got paint on it. We started calling him Picasso.

    I had two of those, a 1988 and a 1989, and it's a great bike. I think I'd lose that trunk in a hurry.
I went through several bikes while I was stationed in Germany (3 tours) and I never had a problem selling any of them when I was leaving.
There was always someone I knew that wanted a bike.

A buddy of mine at Ft Stewart had the same VFR700 as you.. that bike is gorgeous in white!!

Good luck with the CBR... the paint job looks like an Evil Knievel theme!

oh trust me there is over spray on everything lucky for it comes off with brake clean and a little elbow grease. ya thats what i figured i had just found the bike and talked about buying it and one of the guys i work with was like what are you going to do with it when you leave? i said sell it and he was like i will buy it off you, it was that easy. ya thats my real love the vfr in pearl white i think is one of if not the best paint you can get on these bikes.
ya you are the second one to say that im kinda liking it now lol needs some work to make it look good but i think i can do it
