greetings, enthusiasts! i'm back after a long hiatus from VFRworld. i am an older, wiry rider, getting ready to return to two wheel life. my last bike was a '96 VFR, though i didn't get to spend a lot of time with it before i was forced to sell... prior to that, at the end of the last millennium, i rode a series of 900RR's and did some racing on a ZX7R. this time around, i'm looking for more touring and less carving. i have a nine year old son i'd like to put on the back and make the luggage do double duty as a means of protecting him. he has a bit of cerebral palsy and, you know, dad worries. i know you guys have a wealth of knowledge, and i'm open to any and every suggestion on what to look for. i'm focusing on 6 or early 7 gen models, preferably with luggage, on the west coast, and not much more than $5k from vashon island in cascadia, i thank you! will
$5k? Good luck. Brand new 2014 with 3case givi setup will run you close to $22,000cnd all said and done. My suggestion is plan about 1k to 1.5k for a complete givi setup and another 7k for a good 6th gen. This is normal for canadian prices, in the US you may find it cheaper. Im not sure how your son's palsy will play into this, but the givi monokey bags from my experience work great as crash bumpers. If you think you need to have a set of arm rests, consider having some made that will attach to the grab handle location. I dont suggest a belt system for safety sake, most cases its better to not be part of the wreckage if the worst should happen.
5k can get you a used 6th gen with luggage if you look hard and be ready with the $$ Cause good deal won't last Good luck with the hunt
thanks for the responses. yeah, i've been paying attention on listings from oregon and washington and finding that kind of deal come up with some regularity. and it's true, they don't last. i don't doubt that the right combination of bike, time, and money will happen. patience and cunning- it's good to be almost 64!
