I'm looking for someone to rewire my wiring harness for my '97.
I started to make a street fighter out of the old girl after the plastics became a little unsightly.
When it came time to do the wiring harness I think I messed up pretty good, cutting stuff out I thought was not needed but then seen it connects to something vital.
So to sum it up I have my chopped up harness I can send someone to fix it, but here's the fun part. I only want the essentials wired. Ignition control and the charging system. No lights, no gauges, no safety switches or blinkers. Just the basic to make her run. She's gonna be my track/stunt bike now. I bought a nice 3rd gen Magna a few weeks ago so now the VFR will be my play toy.
    Thanks.

I could do it but i wont have the lengths right, and grand rapids is about as far as vancouver from me so i cant just pop over. Though I can help you understand what you need to do and how to do it if you want.
What you are trying to do is fairly simple, start with getting the honda book and copying the schematic and post it so i can have a visual of what you need vs dont care about.

You will need a soldering iron of at least 65watts and good silver/tin solder, rosin core if you can. Digikey.com is a great place for it in half pound rolls. I can create a cart and just give you the access codes to that cart.

You chopped it so use new wire, all the same color is fine if you have a way to lable the wires, clear heatshrink and a cheap dymo lable make works great.

Let me know if you need anything else and

Well I left all the ignition wires and ignition control wires in tact. The coil wires and stuff is untouched. Basicly I removed the gauge wires, and the blinker wires. But it looked like some of the gauge wires were needed to run, but I'm not sure.

On a 6th gen the guages are needed for some reason. I just havent figured out why since mine is staying all together. I know some use a guage loop to ensure you have guages installed, but a schematic would say for sure.

The three largeish wires from the stator go up and over to the r/r unit and two red wires come out, one large and one small. Both go to the battery and should be fused at 40 amps. Both wires must go to the batt positive separately. One is a sense wire and should be made from 42awg with at least 28 strands and should be 16awg in size. The large wire needs to carry the charge current. Make it large like 12awg with as many strands in it as you can get. The more strand the less resistance and such less heat. If your r/r has a 6th wire that goes to the keyswitch and depending on the model it may go to frame or to positive. Your keyswitch has one positive wire going in and several coming out. Set the key to lights only and using a meter test which have power on them then mark them lights. Then turn the key to run and one or two (two on 6th gen) wires also get power. One goes to the relay bank up front to run fuel pump relay and ecu power relay. The other goes to the start switch circuit.

That is from memory so it may have some inconsistencies. But is the basics. Get a copy of the wiring schematic. Vfrd may have your gen honda book in pdf, our links are not working right now.
