One of the dealers near me has a Shelby Cobra with a 327 4 speed kit car for sale. It is a reproduction car with fibreglass body but it was built by one the local body shop owners for a friend so it is beautifully done and it sounds amazing with the side pipes. I think the dealer was asking $35,000. I'd be willing to drive it out for ya Kat. LOL. I'd even spring for the fuel. :)

Oh forgot to mention it is done in fire engine red with white racing stripes and a red leather interior with white accents.

I wish! How many kms between us? Wait...Google rocks. 5,689 kms. Quite a drive! But in one of those, doable with the right weather and wingman.

Well I might certainly have a wingman come with me, Liam. Of course he wouldn't be able to help with the driving, but if I tried to do a cross country trip in a Shelby Cobra without him, he would never forgive me. My name would be mud with a capital "M"

So this thread got me to thinking, and thinking leads to trouble. My wife is gonna be pissed when I get home.

I just bought 1987 Grand National (the one I mentioned in my post above). A bit under 50,000 original miles on it.

So that leads me to my next question: Car is located in Tampa, FL and I'm up in NJ. I think I'd like to have it shipped up here rather than fly and drive. Does anyone have experience - positive or negative - with specific shipping companies? Would be great to have your thoughts since I need to get this moving quickly.

Very new member, just bought a '99 VFR. Porsche 911-993 would be my pick over any of the cars mentioned. Last of the air cooled flat 6's (95-98) Had a '97 and sold it - have regretted it every day since.

BTW what branch of the military are you in?

Sorry - I know it's not cool to not have any pics but they be be along soon (bike and ex-911).

No idea about shipping companies, but I hate you.... ;) Send some pics of that beautiful thing when you can.

Welcome to the forum! I'm in the Air Force as a Non-Destructive Testing Technician. Was an Aviation Technician before that (propulsion). I would love something like a Porsche. The mid 80's 911 always struck a cord with me and I think I'm one of maybe 5 people in the world that actually like the 928! The thought of maintenance and parts scares me. Even the availability of parts depending on where you live.

And now I seem to be on a 2001 - 2002 WS6 Trans Am or Camaro SS for some reason. These were pretty wicked when they first came out. It's going to be one hard decision when the time comes...

No no no VFRkat - I hate you! I had no intentions of buying a car, and then like a swift kick in the gut, I now own this.

I'll post up some pictures when it finally arrives. You in the market? lol

The LS1 motors are a pain in the ass to work on, a third of the damn motor is under the firewall. That being said, I would still buy one in a heart beat. I'm a big fan of the 80's GM G-bodies (preferably the Monte Carlo SS), and Corvettes, but I would go with the newer technology. It's hard to pass up that Tremec 6-speed.

    lol, too funny.

From what I've heard those LS1's can put out some wicked power and are pretty much bullet proof. No experience with one though. Seems like a fun car. I don't see many WS6 Trans Ams or Camaro SS of those year on the road often.

As far as shipping a car, Reliable Carriers is the best, but probably pretty expensive. One of my favorite past cars was a 1988 Toyota Celica All-Trac Turbo. Great little car that was faster and more unique than the typical Talon or Eclipse of the day.

There's only one company you can trust and that's Reliable! Several friends have used them with great success. Check them out It's what they do and they do it good.

What ever you do stay a way from DAS, that's if you run across them. If you do just run away fast!
Or hire a friend (wink wink) to fly down and drive it back.

Out of those two, Grand National.

Out of curiosity, why only those two? How about a sweet 77-79 TA Firebird?

The early Trans Ams were sharp. I like the look of pretty well all the 70's models it's just too bad that they were so choked from the factory into putting out meager power. An early 70's 455 car would be pretty cool with a 4 speed though either way. I wouldn't turn one down if a deal presented itself. There's spmething about that air intake sticking through the hood with a "fire chicken" on it that brings back some wicked memories.

There are, many, many cars I think I could own for a toy. Many I would own if I had the money. But sadly I would have to narrrow the field to just one. What will it be? I may not know until the day comes myself.
