I bought this baby back in 1994 from first owner. She was a beauty!

I was in my early 20's and rode her like the rocket she is! replaced the Kerker can with nice 4-2-1 Yosh after this pic was taken.

Dumped her once. Ran her under a tow truck another time. (Damn that tow truck driver that pulled out in front of me!)

    Here she is torn down.

She came back strong when I repaired her blemishes.

but parenthood and work forced me to put her away a few years back. Fired her up a few times over the years....but I neglected her.

Resisted the urge to sell her....I am glad I still have her!

I stored my baby when I hurt my back a while back.

Time to give her some TLC!

    Back at it again!

    Stay tuned....

Thanks for sharing the pictures. That's one of my first and all time favorite viffers--you obviously have the bug and will endeavor to persevere to get her back on the road.

Got a new compressor 2 weeks ago....My wife gave me grief. :sour:

But, since she bought a new purse I put my foot down and got a 2 year old 60 gallon compressor for 250 bucks off of craigslist!

Last video below will share my opinion of my purchase compared to my wifes! :triumphant: Too bad my dog doesn't have much to say about it! hehe

I can now use all my air tools! I was a drivetrain mechanic for almost 15 years before I went back to school and got a better career..

    One question I had.

Where should I look to keep my VFR from jumping out of 2nd gear when applying heavy throttle? I would shift upwards from 1-n-2 and if I give too much throttle in 2nd it would outta gear back down to Neutral.....sometimes even down to first!

Any ideas before I tear it apart? What should I look for....shift fork wear? Shift mechanism?

    thanks for replies in advance

Now you're in deep, Bunky, so good luck. Jumping out of gear would mostly be caused by previous owner abuse or error.

The 2nd gear shift problem is likely worn ends of the gear dogs. It happens from trying to shift too fast before the clutch has time to release the torque load on the shaft (aka beating the clutch). It is possible and easy to shift without using the clutch if you let the throttle ease off and drop the torque briefly--same effect as clutch.

You have to split the case for this repair. i have tried to repair this by welding up metal on the dog ends and then machining it back down to restore a square edge on the dogs, but it is a lot of work. Easier to buy replacement parts, or even easier to swap engines with one with a known-to-be-good gearbox.
