Why do you think it is an ABS model? The calipers?

All 6th gens have LBS (linked brake system) and the inner rotors are gold on both the ABS and non ABS models. If it is an ABS model then on the left frame just under the tank it will read something like 2003 Model 2003 VFR A. If no 'A' than probably not ABS model. There are some other things the ABS models have, pulse rings on the wheels, shock adjustment knob on right rear, fuse box and computer under left fairing, and ABS light will come on when started until the bike begins to move. ...I think I'm right about all of that. Awsome deal either way! The engine stalling may just be that the idle is set too low. Factory spec is too low. Mine is like 1400-1500 rpms.

I have had the bike cut out on me like described as well but only when it is a cold engine, as in no temp reading at all yet, it has never happened on a warm engine for me even when I had a blown motor with 3 pistons firing.

As for the vtec engagement, it has never bothered me and vtec wheelies are a blast. Perhaps it is my natural hooligan nature. One time I got some front end lift mid corner which was a good adrenaline rush and another time I was at partial throttle and crossed the vtec line mid corner and the bike lost power. You'll get the hang of it quickly and it really isn't a problem unless your throttle hand only has 2 positions.

Read the symptoms carefully, quits when clutch engages switch, comes back on when dis-engages switch.
Hope you can read this: View attachment 25559
Clutch switch is in lower left, kickstand switch upper right.

I took him to mean if he pulled the clutch the engine wouldn't find idle and stall but if he dropped the clutch while it was stalled it would fire right up. Had more than one bike do this on occasion and even some cars and never considered a problem to investigate.

Still think it is clutch/kickstand wiring/switches. Not a serious problem to fix, certainly would not be a reason not to grab a great deal on a great bike.

Yes abs models have gold calipers. Also have remote pre-load adjuster for rear shock.

It's more a matter of opinion. Seems like those that ride hard and do track days don't want ABS (or LBS) while daily riders/commuters like myself would prefer the abs. It was a thousand doller option from the dealership for the ABS model.
