    H all, my winter project is a 1984 VF500FII:

Yes, somebody sprayed it black...but it was cheap so who cares!?!?!

Anyway, my question relates to the fuel line that runs from the carbs to the fuel filter.

I bought a new filter from David Silver spares and set about inspecting/replacing the fuel lines as required.

The new nylon fuel line that fits comfortably onto the fuel pump and fuel filter feels too small a bore to fit onto the fuel valve/petcock.

The petcock looks like the original as it's the same as the one fitted to a VF400F donor cycle that I have for reference.

    Can anyone advise?

    Thanks,

    Paul J.

P.S. So far we've refurbed the brake calipers and fitted new seals and pads, fitted new Brembo disks front and rear, changed the oil and filter, changed the coolant, new handlebar grips, new footrest rubbers, new plugs, new battery...my stepson is studying motorcycle mechanics at college so this is a (ahem) 'project' for him ;-)

Sometimes you can expand a line using a little heat and something stuck in the end to force it larger.

You might want to install the filter between the petcock and fuel pump just in case the tank has rust or crud, or you can put a second one between pump and carbs--old bikes need special attention...

The filter is fitted between the petcock and fuel pump already, as per the FSM:

The fuel goes tank>petcock>filter>pump>carbs. The same fuel line bore fits everywhere apart from the petcock.

I think there's a connector between two different sizes of pipe between the petcock and the fuel filter...based on a close-up image of someone else's VF500 I saw last night, but can't find again. Doh!

I dunked the pipe in my cup of tea, naturally, to soften it up and shoved it onto the petcock...and the beastie fired up with a bit of coaxing. Woo-hoo!!!
