After years of wanting to get on the road, I finally bought the little lady this:

    spyder.jpg

She grew up on 2 wheels but after kids and a motorcycle related family death, she could never pull the trigger. One day, she wanted to go to the Triumph/Aprilia dealer and I was excited. Turns out they also sell can-ams. Anyway, one test ride later and I inherited another monthly payment. Not a VFR. Not even a motorcycle. But its as close as she's willing to go. It's big, bulky, feels like a snow mobile riding it, and gives her a false sense of safety. But hey, you should see the big ol' grin on her face when we go riding. She's already planning long all day trips up the coast this spring.

Got her enrolled in a CHP/MSF course since its been a few years for her. So maybe, just maybe, theres still hope.... But till then, I guess we'll just have to have fun with this yellow Canadian.

I have never been a fan of the Can-Ams, but I've never been on one or talked shit about them. Realistically, if anything were to ever happen to me where I could not ride any more (knock on wood), the Spyder RS-S would be on my radar, but so would an S2000. I would be interested in hearing a true motorcyclist's review of the 3-wheeler. Either way, good for her (and you for encouraging her/ funding it), hope she enjoys the new toy!

Congratulation Reek :party2: As they said a happy wife is a happy life.
It is always a plus to have your long life partner riding and sharing the adventure.
Ride safe and post some picture of her and the new ride.

I see an upside for you having the misses along for the long rides on her Spyder is that she can be the pack mule and leave your bike unladen:glee:

Can-Am did a Demo ride down here in Tampa.... it is like riding a snowmobile on the street & Countersteering is a Big NO NO on these; It was weird going around corners especially when it gets up to Speed but it was very comfortable and stable. Can-Am told us to Not put your feet down at Stop. I rode a Full-Dress Tourer... had a lot of Nifty gagdets.

    Ride Red!

Those things are like a plague up here, especially in Quebec where they are born. We call em summer sleds cause, as you have already noted, they are essentially set up and ride like a snowmobile. I'm still shocked at the sticker price of them and often wonder how folks manage to drop 30k on a toy like this. But then again, a new Wing ain't cheap either and they are fairly prolific too.

I hope you guys have a great time out there and I too look forward to reading all about it.

Sweet! I rode my friend's spider for a day and had a lot of fun.
NOT a motorcycle by any means, but very nice, smooth ride, firm on the ground, good suspension, easy shifting, reverse and found it to have good power in every gear. While going through a turn or sweeper, ones weight has to be shifted to the inside of the turn to counter balance.
Not being my ride, and not wanting to incur in an expensive repair bill, I did my best to see if one of the wheels lost contact with the ground, truth be told, none of the front wheels left the ground despite my efforts .
If I had the means I'd have one in my garage.

They were having a sale for 2013s. stickers at 22000. Down to 16000 with an additional 2 yr warantee (4 yrs total). Sadly, the RSV4 right next to it was also 16000.

So I finally took the Spyder out for a ride. Not for me. The more I rode it, the more I kept having childhood flash backs of riding snow mobiles in upstate new york. It's a bit twitchy on corners and way to neutered for my taste. The lack of lean and countersteer in corners really throws me off. My problem is probably my motorcycle paradigm that limits my open mindedness on this thing. But for the target audience, which I assume are non-experienced riders and older couples, probably very well done. The linked brakes with ABS working thru factory steel braided lines and Brembo calipers are great. It has power assist steering and vehicle stability that cut power on any loss of traction... Sorry Duccman, that feature killed all of my power wheelie attempts. It does however have enough power for a little wheelspin before the TC kills that fun.

Unfortunately, I'm no longer allowed near the Spyder. She caught me trying to disassemble the thing one night. I have this need to take it all apart, I just gotta see whats under there...

Anyway, heres the best picture I have so far of pre-ride pic. We were on our way for a short ride to keep breaking in the spyder. Now that I look at it, it's more Ninja than Spyder. I have to sneak up with photos since there is an issue of camera shyness. I'll work on better pics as it gets warmer; more girl and spyder, less ninja.

I like the picture a lot.
Yeah, spiders are not for everyone. Specially for those of us who have been riding a long time I think.

Love my FZR1000 but I ride my VFR so much it barely gets any road time. It's a 92 and has barely 3,500 miles on it. all my tire changes were from dry rot not use, a shame and a crime really. I tried to sell it a few years back and all I got was low ball offers or accusations of a scammer who dialed back the odo. So I just kept it.
