Can anyone advise on the fi rear shock, i can't afford to spend £££££s on top shocks, but! i could afford a rebuild, the thing is, my local ohlins specialist has said that "some can be rebuilt and some cannot" I'm confused as to whether or not my shock can be.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL.:single_eye:

As Scuba mentioned, Jamie D is the guy you want to talk with. He does offer a retrofit kit using the rear shock off a CBR929 that is modified to suit the bike and the owners riding style etc. I went this route on my bike and it made a HUGE difference. Best money I have spent thus far. Jamie is a member her and has helped numerous members and fellow VFR owners with their suspension woes and all it takes is one call. You won't regret it. Here is link to his site.

Jamie's website shows that he will rebuild and revalve the stock rear shock for $210 US but the cost of shipping the stock unit back and forth and the time without the bike might make CBR929 conversion ($420 option) the more economical choice. Not to mention you could ride the bike right up until you do the actual swap. This is one of the reasons I went this route, so that I could still ride while the shock was being built by Jamie.

    I agree!
Installed the mid-range version last year. What a difference, especially with the Racetech front suspension.

I got a CBR600f4i shock from Jamie for my 6th gen and put it on a few weeks ago. It was the single best bike purchase I've ever made. He does CBR929 shocks for 5th gens. Not only does he build it for your weight and riding style, he sets preload, damping, and rebound up for you to get you up and running fast. Many times you don't even have to tweak his settings. Go for it!

I actually had Jamie Daugherty rebuild an ABS model shock for my 6 Gen and I am very happy with it. I also found a used Penske on ebay that I bought and sent to JD to rebuild for my 5 Gen, he's very affordable (IMO) but since you're in the UK not sure if shipping cost would negate any savings you would get.

    Good luck with your quest.

That's what I was thinking. There probably is a guy there that could do the same job for you and save you a lot of shipping costs. Not that I am saying anything about Jamie's costs. He is very reasonable. It's just that by the time you pay to ship that much weight overseas I would think you could buy something new.

Not at all! In fact, shipping overseas is not very expensive. I sent items to Europe and Australia on a weekly basis, it is not an issue.

...and that gets even cheaper if you're buying a shock from Jamie instead of shipping yours to him, and then back home again. [IMG]

Hi everyone, appreciate the comments but the postage would be too much to send back and forth, i don't have a problem finding the 929 shock but a modified mounts where it stalls.

Even if you find a good cheap one, you're still going to have to get it resprung and revalved.
    They are different bikes.
You'll also have to get the top mount modified, wether you get it made, or make it yourself.
Apart from reworking the original shock, I don't think there is anything cheaper then the 929 from Jamie
    Just my 2 bobs worth.

I ship shocks to Europe and the UK on a weekly basis - shipping is not really that expensive. Shoot me an email and I'll get you a quote. Thanks!
